Italian group 80RAM, was formed in Rome in the spring of 2020. The line-up consists of Maurizio (vocals), Riccardo (samplepad), and Andrea (synth). Their music is influenced by artists such as The Weeknd, Depeche Mode, Franco Battiato, and Paul Kalkbrenner, and their sound is a mix between electro, synthwave, and pop from overseas.
80RAM’s debut single on Spotify, “Dylan (Remix)” was released on September 17, 2021, followed by “Calcare” that December, and their latest single, “Conan,” on February 25.

How was your group formed?
Come è stato il vostro gruppo formato?
It all started from an initial contact towards the end of 2019 between me (Maurizio) and Riccardo via a famous musician's blog; from here on we begin to structure the foundations of the new project, trying to focus on the ideas to produce new music together; then begins the search for the keyboardist until, after some unfortunate attempts in the months to come, Andrea replies via social networks to one of our posts published in those days, officially sealing the birth of the new band.
All three of us come from different but complementary musical experiences, and it was this artistic melting pot that inspired us and pushed us towards experimenting with our own sound.
Tutto è iniziato da un contatto iniziale verso la fine del 2019 tra me (Maurizio) e Riccardo tramite un famoso blog di musicisti; da qui in poi iniziamo a strutturare le fondamenta del nuovo progetto, cercando di mettere a fuoco le idee per produrre nuova musica insieme; inizia quindi la ricerca del tastierista fino a che, dopo alcuni tentativi poco fortunati nei mesi a venire, Andrea risponde tramite i social ad un nostro post pubblicato in quei giorni, sugellando ufficialmente la nascita della nuova band.
Veniamo tutti e tre da esperienze musicali diverse ma complementari, ed è stato proprio questo “melting pot” artistico ad ispirarci e a spingerci verso la sperimentazione di un sound tutto nostro.
Where did you get the idea of the name of your group?
Dove avete avuto l'idea del nome del vostro gruppo?
We were inspired by the Ram which, as a memory, preserves precious data of the past and information for the future, just like our music that looks at the sounds of yesterday, letting itself be contaminated by those of today and tomorrow (even the prefix 80 is indicative of a particularly inspiring decade for us both on an artistic and cultural level).
Beyond this, RAM is the acronym of our first names (Riccardo, Andrea, Maurizio); in short, it was a clear sign of destiny that we should call ourselves that.
Ci siamo ispirati alla Ram che in quanto memoria, conserva dati preziosi del passato e informazioni per il futuro, proprio come la nostra musica che guarda alle sonorità di ieri, lasciandosi contaminare da quelle di oggi e domani (anche il prefisso 80 è indicativo di un decennio per noi particolarmente ispirante sia a livello artistico che culturale).
Oltre questo, RAM è l’acronimo dei nostri nomi di battesimo (Riccardo, Andrea, Maurizio); insomma, era un chiaro segno del destino che ci dovessimo chiamare così.
How is your music written?
Come viene scritta la vostra musica?
At the base of the production of our pieces there is certainly a strong team synergy, we start from a suggestion, from a round of chords on the piano, from a drum line that inspires us, from a vocal that resonates in our heads; found the idea, we close in the studio with our producer and work hard to mix and master each track.
We tell our relationships, life stories, fears or moments of crisis and rebirth, all of this from our point of view, made up of realism and metaphors at the same time.
Alla base della produzione dei nostri pezzi c'è sicuramente una forte sinergia di squadra, partiamo da una suggestione, da un giro di accordi al piano, da una linea di batteria che ci ispira, da un cantato che ci risuona in testa; trovata l'idea, ci chiudiamo in studio col nostro produttore e lavoriamo sodo a mix e master di ogni traccia.
Raccontiamo relazioni, storie di vita, paure o momenti di crisi e rinascita, tutto ciò dal nostro punto di vista, fatto di realismo e metafore al tempo stesso.
How would you describe your music to a new listener?
Come descrivereste la vostra musica a un nuovo ascoltatore?
Our sound oscillates between modernity and nostalgia, we love to include contemporary string pads in productions as well as basses or arpeggiators that wink at the 80 / 90's, bridging two eras that span almost 30 years from each other.
Our musical listening is strongly influenced by that decade, both by songs belonging to the electropop - new wave, as well as to rock or dance; the 80s - 90s among all, really represented a magical, carefree, light period, in which daydreaming was possible for everyone.
Il nostro sound oscilla tra modernità e nostalgia, amiamo inserire nelle produzioni string pad contemporanei così come bassi o arpeggiatori che strizzano l’occhio agli 80/90’s, facendo da ponte tra due epoche che si passano quasi 30 anni l’una dall’altra.
I nostri ascolti musicali sono fortemente influenzati da quel decennio, sia da brani appartenenti all’elettropop – new wave, quanto al rock o alla dance; gli anni 80 - 90 tra tutti, hanno davvero rappresentato un periodo magico, spensierato, leggero, in cui sognare ad occhi aperti era possibile per tutti.
What image do you think your music conveys?

We believe that our pieces trigger and reflect at the same time, dream, and look at reality with clarity; we like to think that listening to us can explore, even if in an apparently contradictory way, an unpredictable territory in which everything is possible and achievable.
Crediamo che i nostri pezzi facciano scatenare e riflettere al tempo stesso, sognare e guardare con lucidità la realtà; ci piace pensare che ci ascolta possa esplorare, anche se in modo apparentemente contraddittorio, un territorio imprevedibile in cui tutto è possibile e realizzabile.
What other bands inspire your music?
Quali altre band ispirano la vostra musica?
Undoubtedly great artists such as Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Paul Kalkbrenner, have influenced our listenings of yesterday and today; at the same time, we are also great admirers of the refinement of maestro Franco Battiato, or of extraordinary bands such as Subsonica, Stadio or always innovative and modern songwriters such as Luca Carboni, Cesare Cremonini, Enrico Ruggeri.
We appreciate and follow with particular attention artists of today and yesterday who experiment and contaminate their music with new influences, without sitting comfortably on their well-established fame.
Senza dubbio grandi artisti come Micheal Jackson, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Paul Kalkbrenner, hanno influenzato i nostri ascolti di ieri e di oggi; siamo allo stesso tempo anche grandi estimatori della raffinatezza del maestro Franco Battiato, o di band straordinarie come Subsonica, Stadio o cantautori sempre innovativi e moderni come Luca Carboni, Cesare Cremonini, Enrico Ruggeri.
Apprezziamo e seguiamo con particolari attenzioni artisti di oggi e di ieri che sperimentano e contaminano la loro musica con nuove influenze, senza sedersi comodi sulla loro fama ormai consolidata.

How would you describe a typical day in the studio?
Come descrivereste una tipica giornata in studio?
As soon as we arrive, we spend the first hour discussing the pending things and how our "non-artistic" lives went in the previous days; after that, we work on the new productions, starting from the arrangements and then moving on to the voices and choirs, up to the re-listening of what has been created (on the twentieth consecutive listening, the ears lead us towards labyrinths without exit, so we understand that it's time for an invigorating sandwich!).
Appena arrivati, passiamo la prima ora a confrontarci sulle cose rimaste in sospeso e su come siano andate le nostre vite "non artistiche" nei giorni precedenti; dopo di che, si lavora alle nuove produzioni, partendo dagli arrangiamenti per poi passare alle voci e ai cori, arrivando fino ai riascolti di ciò che si è creato (al ventesimo ascolto consecutivo, le orecchie ci portano verso labirinti senza uscita, quindi capita che è il momento di un panino rinvigorente!)
What are you working on right now?
A cosa state lavorando adesso?
A trio of new singles will be released from the end of February in which we strongly believe; we are working on a new video clip and preparing a mini summer tour, we will soon be able to give you official news.
Uscirà a partire da fine febbraio una terna di nuovi singoli in cui crediamo molto; stiamo lavorando ad un nuovo videoclip e alla preparazione di un mini-tour estivo, a breve sapremo darvi news ufficiali.
What do you do when you're not playing?
Cosa fate quando non suonate?
We take care of all the extra musical aspects such as the organization of photoshoots, interviews, rehearsals, etc.
We do some dinner out here and there, and of course we go back to thinking about what we will play in a few hours.
We admit it: we suffer from a heavy addiction to music, damn it. <3
Curiamo tutti gli aspetti extra musicali come l'organizzazione dei photoshooting, delle interviste, delle prove, ecc.
Facciamo qualche cena fuori qua e là, ed ovviamente ritorniamo a pensare a cosa suoneremo da lì a poche ore.
