Born in 2000, Mohamed Sarhan, also known as “UNO,” is an Italian-Egyptian singer-songwriter from Rome. He began composing songs in 2016 at the age of 16, learning how to play the guitar on his own. He tries to mix various cultures that is part of his everyday life, starting from oriental culture to the western one.
Uno’s musical influences range from folk to electronic pop, and this project has been inspired by figures like Damien Rice and Jeremy Zucker.
A new chapter for UNO’s project began after the signing with Sony Music Italia and between 2021 and 2022, the singles of the project will be released. The first of the singles, “24 ORE,” was released on December 10, 2021.
Nato nel 2000, Mohamed Sarhan, noto anche come “UNO”, è un cantautore italo-egiziano di Roma. Ha iniziato a comporre canzoni nel 2016 all'età di 16 anni, imparando a suonare la chitarra da solo. Cerca di mescolare le varie culture che fa parte della sua quotidianità, partendo dalla cultura orientale a quella occidentale.
Le influenze musicali di Uno spaziano dal folk al pop elettronico e questo progetto è stato ispirato da figure come Damien Rice e Jeremy Zucker.
Un nuovo capitolo per il progetto di UNO è iniziato dopo la firma con Sony Music Italia e tra il 2021 e il 2022 usciranno i singoli del progetto. Il primo dei singoli, "24 ORE", è stato rilasciato il 10 dicembre 2021.
What inspired you to become a musician?

I've always listened to music since I was a child ... My mom always played Radiohead and the first time I tried to cover “Creep,” I knew I wanted to do this.
Ho sempre ho ascoltato musica fin da piccolo… Mamma metteva sempre i Radiohead e la prima volta che provai a fare la cover di “Creep”, ho capito che volevo fare questo.
How old were you when you started playing (music)?
Quanti anni avevi quando hai iniziato a suonare?
I started playing around 16 years old. I bought a used classical guitar and tried to learn to play alone; I tried to learn to play all the songs on the playlist that I listened to every day, one by one.
Ho iniziato a suonare più o meno a 16 anni. Comprai una chitarra classica usata e per cercare di imparare a suonare da solo cercavo di imparare a suonare una ad una tutta le canzoni della playlist che ascoltavo quotidianamente.
How would you describe your music?

I don't really like describing my music because I always find it difficult to place my music in something unique. But I generally get stuck in pop/urban.
Non amo molto descrivere la mia musica perché trovo sempre difficile collocare la mia musica a qualcosa di unico. Ma generalmente mi incastro nel pop/urban.
Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?

Unfortunately, I haven't performed anywhere yet as the covid hit just as things, speaking of music, started to take a concrete shape.
Surely this summer, if the conditions are right, I'll start with live shows.
Sfortunatamente non mi sono ancora esibito in nessun luogo poiché il covid ha colpito proprio quando le cose, parlando di musica, iniziarono a prendere una forma concreta.
Sicuramente quest’estate, sempre se ci saranno le condizioni adatte, parto con dei live.
Where would your ideal concert be?

My ideal place would be a stadium, that's it, it would be the dream or the final goal at which I point. Step by step I will aim to achieve it as a goal.
Il mio luogo ideale sarebbe uno stadio, ecco, sarebbe il sogno o all’obiettivo finale a cui punto. Passo per passo punterò a raggiungerlo come obiettivo.
What is your favorite song to perform?

My favorite song to perform hasn't come out yet so it's all top secret yet but singing the 24 pre chorus at the top of your lungs wouldn't hurt to start.
La mia canzone preferita da esibire non è ancora uscita perciò tutto top secret ancora ma cantare il ritornello di 24 pre a squarciagola non sarebbe male per iniziare.
Which famous musicians do you admire?

I admired Damien Rice very much from an early age, I think he has something magical that touches his music. Listening above all to “O”, an album of his, takes me to another dimension.
Ammiro fin da piccolo moltissimo Damien Rice, penso che abbia qualcosa di magico che tocca la sua musica. Ascoltando soprattutto “O”, un suo album, mi porta proprio in un’altra dimensione.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?
That each of us is unique, no one will ever be like you for sure. So, if you tell something "real," that represents you, then you will be able to have your own musical identity that represents you completely.
Che ognuno di noi è unico, nessuno sarà mai uguale a te per certo. Perciò se racconti qualcosa di “vero”, che ti rappresenta allora riuscirai ad avere una tua identità musicale che ti rappresenti del tutto.
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
Surely the algorithms that are now present in all listening platforms. If you can "mesh" with the right algorithm, then your music will be buried in quotes so I would definitely change that.
Sicuramente gli algoritmi che oramai sono presenti in tutte le piattaforme d’ascolto. Se riesci ad “ingranare” nell’algoritmo giusto allora la tua musica sarà tra virgolette sepolta perciò cambierei sicuramente quello.
What is a message you would like to give to your fans?

I'm already working on the second single that will surely be released in 2022 and on many other projects that are top secret for now. The only certainty is that 2022 will be full of music.
Sto già lavorando al secondo singolo che sicuramente uscirà nel 2022 e a tanti altri progetti che per adesso sono top secret. L’unica certezza è che il 2022 sarà pieno di musica.
