Classe 1989, Giulio Alberto Caselli, noto anche come “Kaze”, è un artista italiano di Roma, attualmente residente in Francia. L'alias di "Kaze", è stato creato nel 2018, mentre era ancora a Roma, quando ha acquisito abbastanza fiducia per intraprendere questo viaggio.
Kaze ha iniziato lo studio della batteria nel 2003, seguito dal canto moderno nel 2006, dove ha avuto la memorabile esperienza nell'ensemble vocale, dove ha potuto apprendere i principi base della teoria musicale nonché la costruzione degli accordi che sono stati creati delle diverse voci corali. L'anno successivo inizia a cantare fuori dal coro e conosce la maestra Laura Bari. Ha iniziato a scrivere, ma all'inizio era timido. Durante questo periodo, è stato anche coinvolto in diversi progetti musicali, in cui ha suonato la batteria, inclusi i Forum Princes.
Nel 2010 Kaze si iscrive al conservatorio Licinio Refice di Frosinone per studiare come tecnico del suono, acquisendo molte conoscenze sui processi tecnici e creativi. Sebbene non abbia completato il corso, ha mantenuto tutto ciò che ha imparato, che si è rivelato utile. Nel frattempo, ha seguito un corso di studio per tecniche vocali con il maestro Simone Moscato, che, nel 2014, lo ha portato ad insegnare canto moderno in diverse scuole di musica di Roma.
L'esperienza di insegnamento del canto, unita ad un percorso terapeutico individuale, ha permesso a Kaze di comprendere meglio le sue capacità e attitudine generale. Comincia allora a mettere in discussione tutto, l'insegnamento si rivela una vera aspirazione di vita, e non solo nel canto. A partire dal 2017, la sua scrittura ha acquisito una forma più chiaramente orientata, grazie anche al fortunato incontro con Strade, il progetto musicale di Simone Ranalli, a cui ha partecipato come tastierista.
Kaze ha recentemente collaborato al progetto della cantautrice emergente, Giulia Crescentini, per la stesura di alcune sue canzoni. Attualmente prosegue gli studi presso la Facoltà di Lettere Moderne di Roma Tre.
Born in 1989, Giulio Alberto Caselli, also known as “Kaze,” is an Italian artist from Rome, currently living in France. The alias of “Kaze,” was created in 2018, while still in Rome, when he gained enough confidence to embark on this journey.
Kaze began studying drums in 2003, followed by modern singing in 2006, where he had the memorable experience in the vocal ensemble, where he was able to learn the basic principles of music theory as well as the construction of the chords that were created by the different choral voices. The following year, he started singing outside the choir, and met the teacher, Laura Bari. He began writing but was timid at first. During this time, he was also involved in several musical projects, in which he played drums, including all the Forum Princes.
In 2010, Kaze enrolled at the Licinio Refice conservatory in Frosinone to study as a sound technician, acquiring a lot of knowledge about the technical and creative processes. Although he didn’t complete the course, he retained all that he learned, which proved to be useful. Meanwhile, he followed a course of study for vocal techniques with the teacher Simone Moscato, which, in 2014, led him to teach modern singing in various music schools in Rome.
The experience of teaching singing, combined with an individual therapeutic path, allowed Kaze to better understand his abilities and general attitude. He then began to question everything, teaching revealed itself to be a true aspiration of life, and not only in singing. Starting from 2017, his writing acquired a more clearly directed form, thanks also to the lucky meeting with Strade, the musical project of Simone Ranalli, in which he participated as keyboard player.
Kaze recently collaborated on the project of the emerging singer-songwriter, Giulia Crescentini, for the drafting of some of her songs. At the moment, he continues his studies at la Facoltà di Lettere Moderne di Rome Tre.
Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?
What inspired you to become a musician?
Sono diventato un musicista perché sento che c’è l’esigenza, oggi come oggi, di dire e di ascoltare. Abbiamo bisogno di persone che usino il loro tempo e la loro esperienza per tentare di comunicare qualcosa di importante per loro, abbiamo bisogno estremo di musica, di arte, di coltivare qualcosa di diverso dal lavoro che potremmo fare, che ci faccia sentire liberi di esprimere noi stessi. Ho deciso di tentare di dare l’esempio mettendomi a scrivere musica, che è qualcosa che so fare.
I became a musician because I feel that there is a need, nowadays, to say and listen. We need people who use their time and experience to try to communicate something important to them, we need extreme music, art, to cultivate something different from the work we could do, which makes us feel free to express. ourselves. I decided to try to lead by example by writing music, which is something I know how to do.
Quanti anni avevi quando hai iniziato a suonare?
How old were you when you started playing (music)?
Ero abbastanza piccolo, quindi più che suonare facevo qualcosa di più simile a come dicono gli inglesi o i francesi: to play o jouer, giocare. Ricordo il fascino reverenziale che il pianoforte enorme e nero suscitava in me quando avevo circa cinque anni e ancora non osavo avvicinarmi per paura di danneggiare questo oggetto così lucido e intrigante; un giorno ho deciso di sedermi su quello sgabello, facendo attenzione a tutto, e di provare ad esplorare i suoni che quello strumento produceva. Non era qualcosa di bello da sentire, ma era una esplorazione necessaria che mi ha permesso di capire le armonie di cui ero sempre alla ricerca, sebbene rudimentale.
I was quite young, so more than playing I was doing something more similar to what the English or French say: jouer, to play. I remember the awe that the huge black piano aroused in me when I was about five years old and I still did not dare to go near it for fear of damaging this shiny and intriguing object; one day I decided to sit on that stool, paying attention to everything, and try to explore the sounds that instrument produced. It wasn't something nice to hear, but it was a necessary exploration that allowed me to understand the harmonies I was always looking for, albeit rudimentary.
Come descriveresti la tua musica?
How would you describe your music?
Per me è una necessità impellente, che non sempre prende la forma che gli ascoltatori si aspettano. Le mie canzoni raccontano, indossano costumi che fanno sembrare che parlino di qualcosa anche se vorrebbero significare altro. La mia musica è come un ballo in maschera.
For me it is an urgent necessity, which does not always take the form that listeners expect. My songs tell, they wear costumes that make it seem like they're talking about something even if they want to mean something else. My music is like a masked ball.
Dove ti sei esibito? Hai dei prossimi concerti?
Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?
Mi è capitato di suonare in diversi locali di Roma quando ci abitavo (ora abito in Francia), come Le Mura, Marmo e tante altre realtà più piccole di queste. Per il momento non ho date in programma.
I happened to play in various clubs in Rome when I lived there (I now live in France), such as Le Mura, Marmo and many other smaller places. For the moment I have no dates scheduled.
Dov'è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?
Where would your ideal concert be?
Per quanto l’idea di fare un concerto in un grande stadio mi attragga profondamente, sono sempre stato più affascinato dalla possibilità di suonare in un bel paesaggio il più possibile incontaminato, molto a contatto con l’erba, il vento, la terra e la natura in generale.
As much as the idea of doing a concert in a large stadium attracts me deeply, I have always been more fascinated by the possibility of playing in a beautiful landscape as uncontaminated as possible, very much in contact with the grass, the wind, the earth, and nature in general.
Qual è la tua canzone preferita da esibire?
What is your favorite song to perform?
Ora è sicuramente “Helmut” che è il mio singolo di debutto e che è stata anche la sublimazione della mia esperienza nel volontariato di qualche anno fa. Mi piace particolarmente per il fatto che sia leggibile da diverse angolazioni e con diverse sfumature dipendenti dalle esperienze degli ascoltatori. È ambigua, proprio come un ballo in maschera.
Now it is definitely “Helmut,” which is my debut single, and which was also the sublimation of my experience in volunteering a few years ago. I particularly like it for the fact that it is readable from different angles and with different shades depending on the experiences of the listeners. It's ambiguous, just like a masquerade ball.

Uno tra tutti, il primo della lista, è sicuramente Niccolò Fabi, per la forza descrittiva delle immagini che ho sempre trovato nelle sue canzoni e la sua enorme capacità comunicativa, non solo col testo, ma soprattutto per la profonda onestà che trasmettono tutte le sue canzoni. Hanno nel loro cuore una verità che non può non essere detta. A volte però bisogna trovare la delicatezza di girarci intorno, perché certe verità sono in grado anche di farci molto male se non facciamo attenzione. Ecco per me Fabi è un grande artista, uno che fa molta attenzione.
The first on the list is certainly Niccolò Fabi, for the descriptive power of the images that I have always found in his songs and his enormous communication skills, not only with the text, but above all for the profound honesty that all his songs convey. They have a truth in their hearts that cannot but be told. Sometimes, however, we need to find the delicacy to go around it, because certain truths are also able to hurt us a lot if we don't pay attention. Here, for me Fabi is a great artist, one who pays a lot of attention.
Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Quando facevo ascoltare i miei brani alle persone che conoscevo, quando non ero ancora sicuro di nulla ancora più di quanto non possa esserlo oggi, e mi preoccupavo molto di accomodare le modifiche che ciascuno mi suggeriva, una persona molto vicina mi ha detto che non avrei mai potuto, che è impossibile piacere a tutti. Partendo da questo ho cercato di fare della musica che almeno soddisfacesse me, a pieno però, non a metà con tutti gli altri.
When I was playing my songs to people I knew, when I was still not sure of anything even more than I am today, and I was very concerned with accommodating the changes that each one suggested to me, a very close person told me that I “would,” and never “could,” and that it is impossible to please everyone. Starting from this I tried to make music that at least satisfied me, fully however, not halfway with everyone else.
Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
Penso che uno dei problemi più seri del settore della musica sia il fatto che per quanto l’Italia sia un paese che deve anche alla musica la sua fortuna nel mondo, questa continua a non avere abbastanza spazio, per esempio, nella didattica nelle scuole. Al liceo si studia storia dell’arte e raramente troviamo pagine nei manuali che parlino di musica, come se questa fosse un’arte di serie B, o peggio come se non lo fosse affatto. Quando ad un musicista chiedono “cosa fai di lavoro” e lui trova il coraggio di rispondere “il musicista”, la battuta successiva del dialogo è quasi sempre “no ma intendo di LAVORO…” come se fosse una realtà aliena e tagliata fuori da tutto: non è arte, non è lavoro… eppure tanti giovani sognano di diventare musicisti, spesso più attratti dalle conseguenze dell’essere musicista che dall’attività stessa. Vorrei che ci fosse un pochino più di considerazione a livello di come questa disciplina artistica sia percepita dalle persone.
I think that one of the most serious problems in the music sector is the fact that although Italy is a country that owes its fortune in the world to music, it still does not have enough space, for example in teaching in schools. In high school we study the history of art, and we rarely find pages in manuals that talk about music, as if this were a second-rate art, or worse, as if it were not at all. When a musician is asked "what do you do for work" and he finds the courage to answer "the musician", the next line of the dialogue is almost always "no but I mean WORK ..." as if it were an alien reality cut off from everything. : it is not art, it is not work ... yet many young people dream of becoming musicians, often more attracted by the consequences of being a musician than by the activity itself. I wish there was a little more consideration at the level of how this artistic discipline is perceived by people.

What is a message you would like to give to your fans?
Che è importante avere voce. Sono un sostenitore dell’arte e della sua naturale “biodiversità”: che sia musica, pittura, scultura, o qualsiasi altra forma cui riusciamo a pensare, abbiamo bisogno di quante più voci possibili che dicano quante più cose possibili, e ciascuna voce è importante. Kaze è nato per questo: incoraggiavo me stesso per indurre anche altri a trovare il coraggio di urlare la propria voce nel vento.
That it is important to have a voice. I am a supporter of art and its natural "biodiversity": whether it is music, painting, sculpture, or any other form we can think of, we need as many voices as possible that say as many things as possible, and each voice is important. Kaze was born for this: I encouraged myself to induce others to find the courage to shout their own voice in the wind.

What’s next for you?
Il progetto è sempre lo stesso: può sembrare egoista o egocentrico, ma sto continuando a lavorare su di me da dentro, perché è guardandomi dentro che riesco a trovare le cose che per me è importante dire.
The project is always the same: it may seem selfish or self-centered, but I am continuing to work on myself from within, because it is by looking within that I can find the things that are important for me to say.
