Lorenzo Mazzia, also known as “Solo,” is an Italian artist from Rome. He started his music career as a rapper before changing paths when he became passionate about electronic music and production. Currently, he is studying Sound Engineering at the Saint Louis College of music in Rome.
Solo’s latest single, “Feriti,” was released on February 25, 2022. The song was released and distributed by Addicting Records and was produced, mixed, mastered, and not to mention, sung by Solo. His goal with “Feriti” is to make the audience reflect on how any type of relationship can lead to suffering but, it is that pain which leads to the strengthening of the relationship.

L'ultimo singolo di Solo, "Feriti", è stato rilasciato il 25 febbraio 2022. La canzone è stata pubblicata e distribuita da Addicting Records ed è stata prodotta, mixata, masterizzata e, per non parlare, cantata da Solo. Il suo obiettivo con “Feriti” è far riflettere il pubblico su come qualsiasi tipo di relazione possa portare alla sofferenza, ma è proprio quel dolore che porta al rafforzamento della relazione.
What inspired you to become a musician?
Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?
I started playing the guitar in middle school, but I've always had a passion for music since I was a child, although I absolutely don't come from a family of musicians or music lovers. Then in high school there was my rap period: I was sick, I followed a lot of artists and I enjoyed writing. After a few years, however, the passion has waned a bit, especially when I started producing, I started with the first beats but then I became passionate about electronic music, and here I am.
Ho iniziato a suonare la chitarra alle medie, ma la passione per la musica ce l’ho sempre avuta fin da bambino, nonostante io non venga assolutamente da una famiglia di musicisti o appassionati di musica. Poi al liceo c’è stato il mio periodo rap: ero un malato, seguivo una marea di artisti e mi divertivo a scrivere. Dopo qualche anno, però la passione è andata un po’ scemando, soprattutto quando ho iniziato a produrmi: ho iniziato con i primi beat ma poi mi sono appassionato alla musica elettronica, ed eccomi qui.
How old were you when you started playing (music)?

The first time I took up the guitar I was 11 years old. My real "career" in the world of music began at the age of 15 when I released my first piece.
La prima volta che ho impugnato la chitarra avevo 11 anni. La mia vera e propria “carriera” nel mondo della musica è iniziata però a 15 anni quando ho pubblicato il mio primo pezzo.
How would you describe your music?
Come descriveresti la tua musica?
I like to think that it is a fusion of my whole background: certainly electronic, but also with acoustic instruments and lyrics which in any case do not want to be just the filling of the piece.
Mi piace pensare che sia una fusione di tutto il mio background: sicuramente elettronica, ma anche con strumenti acustici e testi che comunque non vogliono essere solo il riempimento del brano.
Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?

I have never actually been on stage. Or rather, when I played the guitar, we obviously did the essays and I played in the school orchestra, but since I stopped, I have never performed because I am still looking for a suitable dimension and opportunity.
In realtà non sono mai salito su un palco. O meglio, quando suonavo la chitarra ovviamente facevamo i saggi e suonavo nell’orchestra della scuola, ma da quando ho smesso non mi sono mai esibito perché sto ancora cercando una dimensione e l’occasione adatta.

I really like those who try to experiment, those who do not limit themselves to gender. Particularly, Alok is undoubtedly my favorite, then Alan Walker, Dynoro...

What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?
"If they force you to do something, don't do it." That's the best advice I've ever given myself.
“Se ti obbligano a fare una cosa, non farla”. È il miglior consiglio che mi sono dato.
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
Giving more recognition to whoever is behind the music: when a new song comes out, the first thing you think about is "what a great job the singer did", at most you can give a minimum of praise to the producer, when in reality, behind there are sound engineers, instrumentalists, graphic designers ... we only look at a part of the final result, in fact we see talent shows looking for the beautiful voice or the beautiful text, we will never see a "Amici" for a producer, or a "Sanremo,” which rewards the song with the most interesting mix and master. These are extremes of course, but ultimately in my opinion we should get out of the conception that music is made only by singing, and I would like to see on Spotify in the "Acknowledgments of the song" window, together with "Written by", "Performed by" and “Produced by”, also “Mixed and Mastered by”.
Dare più riconoscimenti a chi c’è dietro la musica: quando esce una nuova canzone la prima cosa a cui si pensa è “che bel lavoro che ha fatto il cantante”, al massimo si può fare un minimo elogio al producer, quando in realtà dietro ci sono tecnici del suono, strumentisti, grafici… si guarda solo una parte del risultato finale, infatti vediamo talent show che cercano la bella voce o il bel testo, non vedremo mai un “Amici” per producer, o un “Sanremo” che premia la canzone con il mix e il master più interessante. Queste sono estremizzazioni ovviamente, ma in definitiva bisognerebbe secondo me uscire dalla concezione che la musica si fa solo cantando, e in particolare mi piacerebbe vedere su Spotify nella finestra “Riconoscimenti del brano”, insieme a “Scritto da”, “Eseguito da” e “Prodotto da”, anche “Mixato e Masterizzato da”.
