Born in 1999, Simone Maritano, also known as “Weid,” is an Italian singer-songwriter from the province of Turin. Always passionate about music, he focused mainly on the rap genre during his adolescence, then turned to pop at a more mature age, starting to study singing and piano. The abstract writing of mis lyrics allows the listener to enter his world and perceive his same sensations.
In Weid’s continuous search for innovation in sound, he has taken his musical inspiration from contemporary artists such as Justin Bieber, Troye Sivan, and Ed Sheeran, an artist who particularly inspired him in the study of emotional transport.
In 2021, Weid signed his first recording contract with the record label TRB rec by Andrea Tognassi-Music Publishing, with whom he published his debut single “Abisso,” followed by the single, “Tu,” anticipating the release of his first Ep, “Influire,” which came out on February 11, 2022.

What inspired you to become a musician?

I've always loved singing, but never dared to do it in public. I was mainly convinced by my close friends and then later my producer directed me to singing and piano lessons.
Ho sempre amato cantare, ma mai avuto il coraggio di farlo in pubblico. Sono stato convinto principalmente dai miei amici più stretti e poi, successivamente, il mio produttore mi ha indirizzato verso le lezioni di canto e pianoforte.
How old were you when you started playing (music)?

I have been singing for almost two years, while I only started playing the piano since last year during the red zone.

How would you describe your music?
Come descriveresti la tua musica?
My music I would describe with the word "poetry", but not with an intent of strut or emphasis. I use this word because I have always read many poems and wrote some, consequently I have taken up a lot of that abstract and indirect style - typical of poetry - in my compositions.
La mia musica la descriverei con la parola "poesia", ma non con un intento di pavoneggiamento o di enfasi. Uso questa parola perché ho sempre letto molte poesie e ne scrivevo anche qualcuna, di conseguenza ho ripreso molto quello stile astratto e indiretto - proprio della poesia - nelle mie composizioni.
Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?

In the past I have performed live in my area. Unfortunately, at the moment I don't have any events planned unfortunately, given the sensitive period for live events.
In passato mi sono esibito live nella mia zona. Purtroppo, al momento non ho nessun evento pianificato purtroppo, dato il periodo delicato per gli eventi dal vivo.
Where would your ideal concert be?
Dov'è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?
The place does not matter to me personally, I find that the moment and the weather conditions me more if it is obviously an open-air live / concert.
But to answer the question, an outdoor spot with a mountain view would remind me of home.
Il luogo non ha importanza per me personalmente, trovo che mi condizioni di più il momento ed il meteo se si tratta ovviamente di un live/concerto all'aperto.
Però per rispondere alla domanda, un posto all'aperto con una vista sulle montagne, mi ricorderebbe casa.
What is your favorite song to perform?

I state that I have not yet had the opportunity to perform live with the new repertoire, but I would say that "Tu" is the most natural can zone I have written.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

I am a huge fan of Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran, in general of the entire American Pop scene. At the Italian level, the art I admire most is Joan Thiele, I think.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?
"Take it easy". I am a person who suffers from some anxiety. I noticed, however - if you take two breaths and think you are, for example, on the sofa or on the beach - everything is easier. When you think too much your brain goes haywire.
"Rilassati". Sono una persona che soffre un po' di ansia. Ho notato, che però - se fai due respiri e pensi di essere per esempio sul divano o in spiaggia - risulta tutto più facile. Quando pensi troppo il tuo cervello va in tilt.
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
The desire to make music essentially for the audience is something that in Italy there is a lot and in America less, but also because in Italy I think there is much less money and consequently it is easier to survive by compromising for the fans. I would like artists in Italy to care less about the "wave" and try to revolutionize something a bit. We are always the copy of the copy of the copy, just because on the other side of the ocean we see that a certain thing is fruitful.
La smania di fare musica essenzialmente per l'audience, è un qualcosa che in Italia c'è tantissimo e in America meno, ma anche perché in Italia penso girino molti meno soldi e di conseguenza sia più facile sopravvivere compromettendosi per i fan. Vorrei che gli artisti in Italia si preoccupassero di meno della "wave" e che provassero a rivoluzionare un po' qualcosa. Siamo sempre la copia della copia della copia, giusto perché dall'altra parte dell'oceano si vede che una deter minata cosa frutta bene.
