Matteo Ceccarini, also known as “BEHRTO,” is an Italian a singer-songwriter from Livorno who feels the need to talk about himself and others in his work, while always placing authenticity at the center. In 2008, he found an old guitar in his cellar and began his journey. From the beginning, he started to create original songs in the wake of 80s/90s punk. After a while, he found his first project, the band Baryonyx, who he played with for more than ten years, alternating concerts throughout Italy with appearances on radio, newspapers, and TV.
Baryonyx underwent many lineup and genre changes, passing from a Green Day style punk to melodic rock, landing at Italian indie pop in 2018. That year, they embraced their new Italian pop sounds, releasing seven songs that have thousands of plays on Spotify.
In 2020, Matteo took a more intimate look at his new lyrics and decided to undertake a personal project parallel to the band, calling himself “BEHRTO.” The name BEHRTO is dedicated to his grandfather Umberto, who is the strongest person he has ever known.

In 2021, BEHRTO started his collaboration with “Vaniglia Dischi” and published his first song, “Cazzo volete.” His second, and most recent single, “Quello che non sai,” was released on January 19, 2022.

I Baryonyx hanno subito molti cambi di formazione e genere, passando da un punk in stile Green Day al rock melodico, approdando all'indie pop italiano nel 2018. Quell'anno, hanno abbracciato le loro nuove sonorità pop italiane, pubblicando sette canzoni che hanno migliaia di ascolti su Spotify.
Nel 2020, Matteo ha dato uno sguardo più intimo ai suoi nuovi testi e ha deciso di intraprendere un progetto personale parallelamente alla band, chiamandosi "BEHRTO". Il nome BEHRTO è dedicato a suo nonno Umberto, che è la persona più forte che abbia mai conosciuto.

What inspired you to become a musician?

I would describe it in three words as fresh, energetic, and exotic.

Over the years I have performed a bit all over Italy and did some tours. At the moment, I don't have new dates but I'm working hard to start playing live around again.
Negli anni mi sono esibito un po’ in tutta Italia ho fatto qualche tour. Al momento non ho nuove date però sto lavorando sodo per ricominciare a suonare live in giro.
Where would your ideal concert be?
Dov'è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?
In Alessandria in Piedmont, I would say. There was a lot of people singing the songs and the local scenery was really nice. I got very charged up on stage, which produced a great concert.
Ad Alessandria in Piemonte direi. C’era un sacco di persone che cantavano le canzoni e il locale ricordo era veramente bello. Mi caricai molto sul palco e venne fuori un concerto coi fiocchi.
What is your favorite song to perform?

At the moment I say, "Quello che non sai." I am very attached to this song. It is really important to me.
Al momento dico “quello che non sai”. Sono molto legato a questa canzone. È veramente importante per me.
Which famous musicians do you admire?

I admire a lot of almost all foreign artists such as Green Day, Oasis, Linkin Park, but lately I am also re-evaluating the Italian scene a lot. I currently listen to a lot of Bring me the Horizon, Machine Gun Kelly, and Iann Dior.

If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?

More space should be given to the new generation as there are a lot of good artists in Italy.
