Modelo Trigueño is a music artist and producer based in Philadelphia, PA, blending Latin, Hip-Hop, Electronic, and Reggaeton into a unique fusion sound.
Modelo Trigueño's latest album, "Philarico," was released in August 2020, and is available on all streaming platforms.
What inspired you to become a musician?
Growing up, I’d find myself writing countless numbers of melodies in my head. When I finally acquired the knowledge and tools to bring those melodies to life, it became a passion of mine.
How old were you when you started playing?
I’ve been performing in bands since I was 14 years old. I played in several different bands during my high school years. Eventually, when I turned out 19, I moved to Philadelphia and took a long 10-year abstinence from making music. Right around the 2016 election, I found myself needing an outlet and decided to make music again. I taught myself how to produce music thru Logic Pro at first, then transitioned to Pro Tools. Two years later in 2018, I found myself putting out my first single as Modelo.
How would you describe your music?
It’s a fusion of electronica, hip hop, and trip-hop with a Latin edge. I call it Latinx Trap Hop
Where did you perform? Do you have any upcoming concerts?
The pandemic put a halt to any live concert plans, but I am working on a virtual performance. You can follow my Instagram for any updates.
Where is the place of your ideal concert?
I would love to perform in any outdoor venue. I think being outside creates a unique energy.
What is your favorite song to perform?
“Yo Soy Modelo,” which was the first song I entirely developed myself. Working on multiple versions of the song has given it a special place for me. I really enjoy the build-up to the chorus and playing with the riffs which were inspired by the synth soundtracks of many different 80's horror movies.
Which famous musicians do you admire?
Frank Ocean, Bad Bunny, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, Hector Lavoe.
What's the best advice you've been given?
“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there”. I have to be willing to let go and put myself out and hope that people connect. It’s rather intimidating at times but it’s worth it.
If you could change something in the music industry, what would it be?
I would look into updating a lot of the classifications of Latin genres on streaming platforms.
What is a message you would like to give to your fans?
I hope and believe that I can offer you something unique, not only musically but visually as well. I'd always appreciate your feedback to help me keep innovating.
What's next for you?
I have a music video for "Afuera" off my album "Philarico" dropping soon. September and October will also have new music releases. Longer-term, I'm working on a design for a live show when that opportunity becomes available again.
