PORN was formed by Philippe Deschemin while studying psychology and sociology. The mission was to create dark, sexy & dangerous music, “something like a beautiful, tasty fruit with a razor blade inside.”
PORN's Murder Rock was then born.
How was your group formed?
It all started when I ( Philippe Deschemin ) was studying psychology and sociology and decided to create my own band. I bought a very poor guitar, and ask a friend to show me how it works. I was strongly influenced by legendary bands like The Doors, David Bowie, The Cure... and industrial rock/metal (Marilyn Manson, Ministry...) . I started to write music and the first songs came.
From the very beginning the concept was simple, to create aggressive, sexy, powerful dark and dangerous music. Something like a beautiful fruit with a razor blade inside. The aim was always to get closer from reality, spill the guts and start to created a life-long work.
Where did you get the idea of the name, Porn the band?
I am a very big fan of The Cure. Our name was inspired by their album : Pornography. Robert Smith is probably the guy who inspired me the most vocally. I really love his voice. I am also admirative of his ability to write sad emotional songs and catchy pop songs. Our name PORN, is a homage to The Cure and there album Pornography. And maybe because PORN is the thing that everybody watch and lies about.
How is your music written?
It depends... Our 3 previous album are part of a Trilogy : Mr Strangler Trilogy. So its all about getting musically close to the story.
Erwan Frugier and I compose the music, and I work on the lyrics, the concept.
How would you describe your music to a new listener?
I think PORN is a blend of Industrial rock and gothic/dark atmospheres. But I consider the band as a rock band.
What other bands inspire your music?
So many... ! The Cure, David Bowie, Tool, Pink Floyd, REM, Type O negative...
Where have you performed?
Europe, we hope after the covid pandemic, we will tour in the rest of the world !
What are you working on right now?
We are working on the second part of our new trilogy! In the final Act of the Mr Strangler trilogy published in 2020, the serial killer lost his life, condemned to death. Shortly before his execution, Mr. Strangler became a messiah for an enigmatic community called The Stranglings and led by The Guide. Traveling from city to city, the community continues to grow, joined by a growing number of people fleeing the modern world in search of a better life and meaning in their existence.
Their name, The Stranglings, comes from a tribute to Mr. Strangler, who became a symbol of freedom, and their feeling of being strangled by society.
A new trilogy begins : The Stranglings Trilogy
For this new opus, we teamed up with Chris Vrenna. He was the legendary drummer of Nine inch Nails then Marilyn Manson and worked with the greatest (U2, David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Rammstein ...). It was an honor for us!
The finalization of the album was done with Brian Lucey (Depeche Mode, Arctic Monkeys, Ghost ...) who took care of the mastering.
