Intervista con Andrea Lupi | @and.wolves (Italiano & English)

Classe 1992, Andrea Lupi è un cantautore italiano di Roma. Andrea si è avvicinato alla musica in giovane età, a cominciare dal clarinetto. Successivamente si è dedicato alla tastiera, poi infine al canto.

Frontman e coautore nella band "NoiseBusters", Andrea ha pubblicato due album e un singolo con il gruppo, con il quale è stato finalista nazionale dell'edizione "Cantagiro" nel 2015. Ha avuto anche l'opportunità di vivere un'intensa esperienza live che lo ha portato su vari palchi romani e nazionali come, Stazione Birra, Blackout e Zona roveri.

Recentemente, il lavoro da solista di Andrea ha incluso cover di "Eleanor Rigby" dei Beatles (mentre è completamente bloccato) e "Stupendo" di Vasco Rossi. Attualmente sta lavorando a nuove canzoni.

Born in 1992, Andrea Lupi is an Italian singer-songwriter from Rome. Andrea approached music at a young age, starting with the clarinet. Later, he dedicated himself to keyboard, then finally, singing.

Frontman and co-author in the band, "NoiseBusters," Andrea has released two albums and a single with the group, with which he was a national finalist of the "Cantagiro" edition in 2015. He also had the opportunity to have an intense live experience that took him to various Roman and national stages such as, Stazione Birra, Blackout, and Zona roveri.

Recently, Andrea’s solo work has included covers of "Eleanor Rigby," by the Beatles (while in full lockdown), and "Stupendo," by Vasco Rossi. He is currently working on new songs.

Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?

What inspired you to become a musician?

Non so, tante cose, un po gli eventi della vita, la necessità di trovare un modo di esprimermi a me congeniale, il ricordo di mio padre che suonava la chitarra (strumento per il quale sono abbastanza negato purtroppo), la meraviglia che è la musica live, sopra e sotto il palco, una volta assaporata è difficile tornare indietro.

I don't know, so many things, life events, the need to find a way to express myself that is congenial to me, the memory of my father playing the guitar (an instrument for which I am quite denied unfortunately), the wonder that is live music, above and below the stage, once tasted it is difficult to go back.

Quanti anni avevi quando hai iniziato a suonare?

How old were you when you started playing (music)?

Il mio primo approccio con uno strumento musicale è stato intorno ai 12 anni con il clarinetto, poi qualche anno dopo (credo avessi sui 15 anni) mi sono dato al canto e alla tastiera.

My first approach to a musical instrument was around 12 years with the clarinet, then a few years later (I think I was about 15) I started singing and playing the keyboard.

Come descriveresti la tua musica?

How would you describe your music?

Durante il mio percorso direi di aver spaziato abbastanza, partendo dal rock, passando per musica più di nicchia fino ad arrivare ai pezzi a cui sto lavorando in questo periodo, sicuramente più pop, nei quali sto cercando di esprimere qualche concetto di "identificazione umana" ma anche un pensiero più intimista, bilanciando il contesto attuale con la mia visione personale.

During my journey, I would say I have ranged enough. Starting from rock, passing through to more niche music, up to the pieces I'm working on in this period. Certainly more pop, in which I'm trying to express some concept of "human identification," but also a more intimate thought, balancing the current context with my personal vision.

Dove ti sei esibito? Hai dei prossimi concerti?

Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?

Devo dire che soprattutto con il mio gruppo storico (al quale è veramente dovuto almeno questo cenno e che saluto con affetto, ciao Noise!), mi sono trovato davvero su quasi tutti i tipi di palco, dal pub più piccolo a locali di un certo rilievo come Stazione Birra, il Blackout o il Traffic di Roma, ma anche a Zona Roveri di Bologna e in qualche festival. Prossimi concerti visto il periodo non ce ne sono ovviamente, magari mi butterò a fare qualche live via social.

I must say that especially with my historical group (to whom at least this nod is really due and which I greet with affection, hello Noise!), I found myself on almost all types of stages, from the smallest pub to certain clubs prominent as Stazione Birra, Blackout or Traffic in Rome, but also in Zona Roveri in Bologna and in some festivals. Obviously there aren't any upcoming concerts given the period, maybe I'll throw myself to do some shows via social.

Dov'è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?

Where is your ideal place to perform?

Ho sempre pensato che sarebbe fantastico un bel concerto sulla spiaggia stile Jovanotti, anche con un'atmosfera meno "discoteca", più rilassata. Devo dire che mi piacerebbe farne uno in entrambi i modi!

I always thought that a nice concert on the Jovanotti-style beach would be great, even with a less "disco" atmosphere, more relaxed. I have to say I'd love to do one either way!

Qual è la tua canzone preferita da esibire?

What is your favorite song to perform?

Eh, bella domanda... Visto che l'ho suonata riarrangiata veramente in tutti i modi, dal rock allo swing, fino alla cover che ho fatto uscire durante il lockdown, dico "Eleanor Rigby" dei Beatles.

Eh, good question ... Since I played it really rearranged in every way, from rock to swing, up to the cover I released during the lockdown, I say "Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles.

Quali musicisti famosi ammiri?

Which famous musicians do you admire?

Devo dire che ce ne sono tanti, forse troppi. Sono cresciuto con i Queen, che ancora oggi adoro, ammiro molto i Pink Floyd, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, ovviamente i Beatles e chissà quanti ne dovrei aggiungere. Dei nostrani invece citerei obbligatoriamente De André, dopodichè ho sempre apprezzato anche Vasco (del quale ho prodotto una cover di "Stupendo" , uscita di recente), Cremonini, e adoro Elio e le storie tese!

I must say that there are many, perhaps too many. I grew up with Queen, who I still love today, I really admire Pink Floyd, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, of course the Beatles and who knows how many I should add. On the other hand, I would necessarily mention De André from our own people, after which I have always appreciated Vasco (of which I produced a cover of "Stupendo", recently released), Cremonini, and I love Elio e Le Storie Tese!

Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Quello di non arrendermi, anche quando la strada sembra troppo impervia.

That of not giving up, even when the road seems too rough.

Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?

If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?

Sinceramente cambierei questo format alla "X factor" che sta prendendo sempre più piede anche nelle realtà emergenti. Ho sempre pensato che la musica dovrebbe unire musicisti ed ascoltatori, e non diventare una competizione sportiva. Poi per carità, le rivalità sono sempre esistite (spesso create ad hoc dai media), basti pensare ai Beatles e ai Rolling Stones, ma perchè no, anche a Mozart e Salieri (avversari forse più al cinema che nella realtà), ma doverne fare uno scontro con tanto di tabellone stile Mondiale lo trovo svilente, come se ci fosse bisogno di oscurare uno per mettere in luce l'altro.

Honestly, I would change the format for "X factor," which is becoming increasingly popular even in emerging realities. I always thought that music should unite musicians and listeners, and not become a sporting competition. Then for heaven's sake, rivalries have always existed (often created ad hoc by the media), just think of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, but why not, also of Mozart and Salieri (opponents perhaps more in the cinema than in reality), but I find a confrontation with a lot of World-style scoreboard demeaning, as if there was a need to obscure one to highlight the other.

Qual è un messaggio che vorresti dare ai tuoi fan?

What is a message you would like to give to your fans?

Vorrei mandare un messaggio importante in questo periodo difficile: NON ABBANDONIAMO L'ARTE! Non dimentichiamoci di quanto era meraviglioso cantare tutti insieme ad un concerto, di come emozionante fosse uno spettacolo a teatro o di quanto ci siamo divertiti facendoci magnetizzare da Gigi Proietti, e la mole di sensazioni che poteva darci un grande film nel buio della sala. Speriamo di poter tornare a tutto questo il prima possibile!

I would like to send an important message in this difficult period: DO NOT ABANDON ART! Let's not forget how wonderful it was to sing all together at a concert, how exciting a show was in the theater or how much we enjoyed being magnetized by Gigi Proietti, and the amount of sensations that a great film could give us in the dark of the hall. We hope we can get back to all of this as soon as possible!

What’s next for you?

Il mio prossimo progetto riguarderà sicuramente le canzoni a cui mi sto dedicando in questo periodo, non so ancora quando e in che modalità, per il momento sto lavorando per farle rendere al meglio possibile.

My next project will certainly concern the songs I'm dedicating to in this period, I don't know yet when and in what way, for the moment I'm working to make them perform as well as possible.
