Gerolamo Sacco è un musicista italiano di Bologna. Ha iniziato ad appassionarsi alla musica all'età di 19 anni, ea 21 anni è entrato in Media Records alla corte di Gigi D'Agostino con il quale ha lavorato 5 anni come produttore e ideatore. Nel 2007 si diploma in Storia della musica moderna e contemporanea e successivamente viene ammesso, come musicista autodidatta, al Conservatorio Martini di Bologna, dove studia per 4 anni composizione armonica e contrappunto con il maestro Grandi.
È in questo periodo che prende forma il progetto Miraloop, che debutta alla fine del 2008 come "prima casa discografica fondata da musicisti" con quattro etichette indipendenti che trattano ognuna un genere diverso nel mondo musicale. Dal 2009, Gerolamo ha prodotto più di duecentocinquanta pubblicazioni per dozzine di artisti diversi, ottenendo più di cento posizionamenti nelle classifiche di vendita sia con progetti fantasma che con progetti di nuovi artisti, spaziando dal pop, all'elettronica, alla musica e alle colonne sonore.
Tra i progetti fantasma di Gerolamo c'è l'Etiopia Ringaracka, un progetto reggae-dub dove esplora l'afrofuturismo nella musica, nell'elettronica e nei campioni africani: il primo album Afrofuturism si posiziona per un mese al numero 1 della classifica Reggae-Dub della Beatport Top100, risultato che sarà ripetuto con l'uscita del secondo, Afrofuturism Vol. Ⅱ.
Nel frattempo, prosegue il suo progetto artistico, caratterizzato da atmosfere oniriche ed esplorazioni sonore, dove unisce la produzione musicale alla parte cantautorale. Nel 2011 Gerolamo ha presentato la sua idea di musica a 360 gradi sotto forma di podcast, Gerolandia Express, un "viaggio in treno" in cui ha presentato decine di brani inediti. Nel 2013 esce il primo album cantato di persona: Alieno, che raggiunge la top 100 su iTunes in tutti i generi in Italia.
Dalle prime uscite in poi, la voce di Gerolamo, cantante e autore delle sue canzoni, si forma e si trasforma in New Worlds (2019), il secondo album da cantautore accompagnato alla radio dai singoli “Casa Mia”, “Stelle Dipinte "," Momo (Qui) "e" La Prima Estate del Mondo ". Nel settembre 2020, è tornato dallo spazio ed è atterrato in Italia, a Bologna, con il nuovo singolo, "Batman & Bugo", che contiene un'apparizione speciale del suo amico e collega Devon Miles.
Gerolamo Sacco is an Italian musician from Bologna. He started to become passionate about music at the age of 19, and at the age of 21 he joined Media Records at the court of Gigi D'Agostino with whom he worked 5 years as a producer and creator. In 2007, he graduated in History of Modern and Contemporary Music and was later admitted, as a self-taught musician, to the Martini Conservatory in Bologna, where he studied harmony composition and counterpoint for 4 years with the maestro Grandi.
It was during this period that the Miraloop project took shape, debuting at the end of 2008 as the "first record company founded by musicians" with four independent labels that each deal with a different genre in the musical world. Since 2009, Gerolamo has produced more than two hundred and fifty publications for dozens of different artists, achieving more than a hundred sales chart placements with both ghost projects and projects by new artists, ranging from pop, electronics, music, and soundtracks.
Among Gerolamo's ghost projects are Ethiopia Ringaracka, a reggae-dub project where he explores afrofuturism in music, electronics and African samples: the first album Afrofuturism is positioned for a month at No.1 of the Reggae-Dub chart of Beatport Top100, a result that will be repeated with the release of the second, Afrofuturism Vol. Ⅱ.
In the meantime, he continues his artistic project, characterized by dreamy atmospheres and sound explorations, where he combines musical production with the songwriting part. In 2011 Gerolamo presented his idea of 360-degree music in the form of a podcast, Gerolandia Express, a "train journey" in which he presented dozens of unreleased pieces. In 2013, he released the first album sung in person: Alieno, which reached the top 100 on iTunes in all genres in Italy.
From the first releases onwards, the voice of Gerolamo, singer and author of his songs, is formed and transformed to New Worlds (2019), the second album as a singer-songwriter accompanied on the radio by the singles “Casa Mia,” “Stelle Dipinte,” “Momo (Qui),” and “La Prima Estate del Mondo.” In September 2020, he returned from space and landed in Italy, in Bologna, with the new single, "Batman & Bugo," which contains a special appearance by his friend and colleague Devon Miles.
Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?
What inspired you to become a musician?
In realtà ci sono arrivato con il tempo, non l'ho mai deciso o stabilito, è stato un percorso a portarmi a fare musica e sempre più musica, poi a farne una professione. Penso che in realtà tutto nasce dal mio bisogno di comunicare. Ho dei messaggi che non posso fare a meno di divulgare che riguardano la fantasia, la libertà, l'evoluzione personale o spirituale. Questo mi porta a scrivere e a cercare di creare un legame con le persone che ascoltano la mia musica. Racconto storie che vogliono far pensare e soprattutto immaginare. Quando ero piccolo dipingevo, ho dipinto tantissimo, centinaia e centinaia di disegni, progetti, storie e racconti: oggi uso il pentagramma o il sequencer per fare produzione musicale esattamente come una tela. Un foglio bianco su cui mettere emozioni e colori sotto forme di suoni e parole, per dire cose che in qualche modo possano cambiare la prospettiva e la percezione del mondo in cui viviamo e che abbiamo intorno.
I actually got there with time, I never decided or established it, it was a path to take me to make music and more and more music, then to make it a profession. I think it's actually all about my need to communicate. I have messages that I can't help but divulge that relate to fantasy, freedom, personal or spiritual evolution. This leads me to write and try to bond with the people who listen to my music. I tell stories that want to make you think and above all imagine. When I was a child I painted, I painted a lot, hundreds and hundreds of drawings, projects, stories and stories: today I use the staff or sequencer to make musical production exactly like a canvas. A blank sheet on which to put emotions and colors in the form of sounds and words, to say things that can somehow change the perspective and perception of the world in which we live and that we have around.

Ho iniziato con i giradischi a 18, le prime lezioni di armonia e contrappunto classico a 23, le prime lezioni di pianoforte a 25 e prime lezioni di canto a 30 anni. E ora eccomi qua :)
I started with turntables at 18, the first lessons in harmony and classical counterpoint at 23, the first piano lessons at 25 and first singing lessons at 30. And now here I am :)
Come descriveresti la tua musica?
How would you describe your music?
La mia musica è molto vasta: non so se ci sono termini di paragone attuali per descriverla. Quindi vado a braccio. Ti direi che è musica di immaginazione e astrazione, realizzata in maniere diverse. A volte do spazio alle parole, altre volte all'armonia. Ho fatto un percorso lungo e complesso per arrivare a potermi esprimere in modi così diversi, e ho ancora tanti sentieri da percorrere.
Il mio progetto che porta il mio nome e cognome, Gerolamo Sacco, è cantautorale, sono canzoni, ed penso sia semplicemente musica per sognatori, persone libere e capaci di immaginare, se dovessi dare una definizione direi che sono "visioni"!
Ho all'attivo 60 o 70 canzoni come cantastorie, non so dirti con precisione il numero, ma se considero anche il mio lavoro come produttore con la mia casa discografica Miraloop le produzioni musicali sono molte di più. My music is very extensive: I don't know if there are current comparison terms to describe it. So I'm going to go arm in arm. I would tell you that it is music of imagination and abstraction, made in different ways. Sometimes I give space to words, other times to harmony. I've made a long and complex journey to get to be able to express myself in such different ways, and I still have so many paths to walk.
My project that bears my first and last name, Gerolamo Sacco, is songwriting, they are songs, and I think it is simply music for dreamers, free people and able to imagine, if I were to give a definition I would say that they are "visions"!
I have 60 or 70 songs as storytellers, I can't tell you the number, but if I also consider my work as a producer with my Record Label Miraloop the musical productions are many more. On my site I created 8 Spotify playlists where there is all my work, I give you the link.

Nasco come compositore, produttore e anche dj, come cantante sto cominciando ora. Dopo l'uscita di Mondi Nuovi, il mio secondo album di canzoni italiane, ho iniziato a lavorare ad un progetto di live acustico delle mie canzoni da cantautore che doveva avere il primo concerto questa primavera, poi purtroppo per il covid-19 si è fermato tutto. Stiamo costruendo una cosa completamente diversa da quella che è la proposta discografica, perchè parte da piano e voce in acustico. Un modo diverso per raccontare le mie canzoni, che nei dischi hanno spesso arrangiamenti pompati ed elettronici!
I was born as a composer, producer and even DJ, as a singer I'm starting now. After the release of Mondi Nuovi, my second album of Italian songs, I started working on an acoustic live project of my songs as a singer-songwriter that was to have the first concert this spring, then unfortunately for the covid-19 it all stopped. We're building something completely different from the record proposal, because it starts from piano and vocals in acoustic. A different way to tell my songs, which on records often have pumped and electronic arrangements!

Il mio sogno è un teatro. Il teatro da all'ascoltatore il tempo e lo spazio mentali per sognare, immaginare, essere parte attiva delle emozioni senza distrazioni. Chissà!
My dream is a theatre. Theatres give the listener the time and the mental space to dream, imagine, be an active part of emotions without distractions. Wonder!
Qual è la tua canzone preferita da esibire?
What is your favorite song to perform?
Direi Abisso, dall'album Mondi Nuovi. Non è una canzone facile, ma da uno spazio espressivo unico, il finale arriva a voce piena, c'è possibilità di emozionarsi in modo eclatante. A volte mi emoziono così tanto che mi commuovo quasi! Per fare divertire la gente invece ti direi che la mia preferità è il nuovo singolo Batman & Bugo, divertente da cantare e va via liscia tutta d'un fiato!
I'd say "Abisso," from the album Mondi Nuovi. It's not an easy song, but from a unique expressive space, the ending comes in full voice, there is a chance to get excited in an egregious way. Sometimes I get so emotional that I'm almost moved! To amuse people instead I would tell you that my preference is the new single Batman & Bugo, fun to sing and goes away smooth in one breath!

Which famous musicians do you admire?
Ascolto diversi generi, quindi ti farei migliaia di nomi. Provo a fartene un po'. Per la canzone italiana ti direi Franco Battiato su tutti, per il modo di cantare anche Zucchero e Luca Carboni. Paolo Conte per l'atmosfera. Ma ci sono tanti altri artisti che mi emozionano.
Tra le band vado fuori di testa per tutto il pop elettronico, da M83 ai Royksopp, e adoro il progressive anche quello primordiale di Jean Michel Jarre, Schulze, Vangelis.
Tra i dj producer ti potrei fare tantissimi nomi, anche di musiche particolari e di nicchia come Vorakls e Yotto, che fanno progressive house. Adoro!
I listen to different genres, so I'd give you thousands of names. I'm going to try to get some. For the Italian song I would say Franco Battiato on everyone, for the way to sing also Sugar and Luca Carboni. Paolo Conte for the atmosphere. But there are so many other artists that excite me.
Among the bands I go crazy for all the electronic pop, from M83 to Royksopp, and I love the progressive also the primordial one of Jean Michel Jarre, Schulze, Vangelis.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Un mio amico produttore, Riccardo Paone un giorno mi ha detto: quando fai una produzione devi imparare a non metterci dentro tutto quello che sai fare o che puoi fare. Limitati a quello che vuoi comunicare. Tu sai fare tante cose, e questo come produttore è il tuo vantaggio, ma quando produci le tue canzoni ti basta solo una parte di quello che sai fare!

A producer friend of mine, Riccardo Paone, told me one day: when you make a production you have to learn not to put everything you can do or can do in it. Limit yourself to what you want to communicate. You know how to do so many things, and this as a producer is your advantage, but when you produce your songs you only need a part of what you can do!

Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
Premesso che viviamo nel periodo più creativo della storia (sfido chiunque a dimostrare il contrario!) siamo anche nel periodo dell'umanità in cui c'è stato il cambiamento più grande della storia dai tempi dell'invenzione dei caratteri mobili o del grammofono: stiamo vivendo tempi che verranno ricordati.
Ora come ora ci sono troppe cose che devono cambiare, ma ci vorrà tempo. A cavallo tra gli anni 00 e gli anni 10 sono successe cose incredibili per il mondo della musica, una rivoluzione totale, poi tra il 2012 e il 2015 il mondo della musica è ritornato ad essere controllato da poche persone, come in passato. Ci vorrà tempo.
Però a parte cambiamenti nel music business a livello macroscopico ti dirò due cose a cui tengo particolarmente.
La prima. Sicuramente una cosa che vorrei cambiasse la critica e il giornalismo musicale. Siamo troppi a fare brani, e per quanto ci sia della qualità mostruosa, sono talmente tanti quelli che "ci provano" che per l'ascoltatore medio è troppo difficile andarsi a cercare bravi artisti meno conosciuti, dovrebbero setacciare troppa musica. Ma se i critici e i giornalisti smettessero di occuparsi solo di quelli più conosciuti per avere due lettori in più, o di parlare indiscriminatamente di tutti quelli con cui lavorano senza orientare l'ascoltatore a scegliere, l'ascoltatore si farà sempre scegliere da Spotify chi ascoltare o meno. E Spotify, così come tutte le altre piattaforme, tendono a portarti dove pare a loro.
Un'altra cosa che vorrei cambiasse riguarda la realtà italiana: noi italiani dobbiamo renderci conto che la nostra cultura è fondamentale in tutto il mondo musicale, dobbiamo essere consapevoli di chi siamo, alzare la testa, la nostra cultura è importante per l'evoluzione musicale, va valorizzata.
L'Italia attualmente è se non sbaglio il nono o il decimo mercato musicale del mondo, anche se la percezione locale è che sia molto più piccolo. Il punto è che fatta eccezione per il contributo (immenso) della musica black negli USA, la musica occidentale così come la conosciamo tuttora, dal Medioevo alla dance, è nata in Italia. Il fatto che le note sono 7 su una scala di 12 suoni, l'invenzione dell'armonia nel Medioevo, l'invenzione del belcanto, il primo spettacolo cantato da una donna (inizio 1600), il canto unito alla recitazione e al ballo e quindi l'opera, l'invenzione degli strumenti musicali come il pianoforte, il violino, etc sono tutte cose nate in Italia. Fino ad arrivare al primo Festival di sempre, o tutta la musica da ballare che da "I feel love" di Donna Summer a "Satisfaction" di Benny Benassi o "Piece of your heart" di Meduza è tutta roba di italiani. Praticamente tutto quello che non è black music (sia jazz che hip hop) o rock è nato qui. Dobbiamo esserne consapevoli.
Given that we live in the most creative period in history (I challenge anyone to prove otherwise!) we are also in the period of humanity when there has been the greatest change in history since the invention of mobile characters or gramophone: we are living times that will be remembered.
Right now there are too many things that need to change, but it will take time. Between the 00s and the 10 years, incredible things happened for the music world, a total revolution, then between 2012 and 2015 the world of music returned to being controlled by a few people, as in the past. It's going to take time.
But apart from changes in the music business at the macroscopic level I will tell you two things that I particularly care about.
The first. Definitely something I would like to change criticism and music journalism. There are too many of us making songs, and although there is a monstrous quality, there are so many who "try" that for the average listener it is too difficult to go looking for good lesser-known artists, they should sift through too much music. But if critics and journalists stop caring only about the best-known ones to have two more readers, or to talk indiscriminately about everyone they work with without directing the listener to choose, the listener will always choose from Spotify who to listen to or not. And Spotify, like all other platforms, tend to take you where it pleases them.
Another thing I would like to change concerns the Italian reality: we Italians must realize that our culture is fundamental throughout the musical world, we must be aware of who we are, raise our heads, our culture is important for musical evolution, it must be valued.
Italy is currently the ninth or tenth music market in the world, although the local perception is that it is much smaller. The point is that except for the (immense) contribution of black music in the USA, Western music as we know it today, from the Middle Ages to dance, was born in Italy. The fact that the notes are 7 on a scale of 12 sounds, the invention of harmony in the Middle Ages, the invention of belcanto, the first show sung by a woman (beginning 1600), singing combined with acting and dancing and then opera, invention of musical instruments such as piano, violin, etc. are all things born in Italy. Until you get to the first Festival ever, or all the dancing music that from Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" to "Satisfaction" by Benny Benassi or "Piece of your heart" by Meduza is all Italian stuff. Pretty much anything that isn't black music (whether jazz or hip hop) or rock was born here. We must be aware of this.
