Alberto Zicchiero, in arte Il Contagio, ha iniziato come bassista. Si è avvicinato al rap, poi all'hip hop, nel 2005. Quell'anno ha fondato la NDP Crew, che è ancora in attività. Il movimento hip hop della città di Lecco, è composto da numerosi MC e dj. Seguendo le orme della storica crew SDPL, NDP Crew inizia ad aumentare le proprie fila e lavorare in studio di registrazione, fino a debuttare nel 2007 con "Progetto Suburbano Mixtape Vol.1", che vede la collaborazione con artisti come Francesco Paura, Mirko Miro, Kiave, Asher Kuno, Hyst, Oyoshe.

Nicola Maggi, in arte Attarus, è un beatmaker di lunga data, attivo dalla seconda metà degli anni '90. Dopo i primi demo e varie esibizioni dal vivo, ha co-prodotto l'album "Come Ombre" di SDPL, il collettivo hip hop di cui fa parte, che è un lavoro underground considerato una pietra miliare nel panorama musicale lecchese.

Il 2020 è stato, secondo molti, l'anno del Covid-19. L'anno del contagio. In un contesto così nazionale e internazionale, un nuovo album di Il Contagio e Attarus non sembrava essere una priorità. Pur completando il loro lavoro, il produttore e MC hanno deciso di posticipare il loro rilascio a causa del primo blocco, rispetto alle numerose vittime dell'emergenza sanitaria dovuta alla diffusione del virus. Ora che la situazione sta lentamente migliorando, anche nel momento di un blocco parziale, era maturo per l'uscita di “Mutazione Del Virus”, uscito a novembre in CD e in digitale per l'etichetta discografica, Skill To Deal Records, Milano.

Skill To Deal Records, ha deciso di concentrarsi sul duo Lecca composto da musicisti da tempo attivi sulla scena con le rispettive crew, NDP e SDPL. L'unione tra il percorso artistico del mc e quello del produttore dà vita a un disco 100% hip hop, con un sound attuale ma comunque solido, che ricorda l'epoca d'oro del movimento tanto quanto i suoni new school. La rappata del Contagio degli anni '90 sfocia nei ritmi proposti da Attarus in un modo su cui si possono sintonizzare sia la vecchia scuola che la nuova leva. Dai temi più classici alle riflessioni più intime, l'album si sviluppa lasciando spazio a un sound articolato, maturo e profondo d'atmosfera, il giusto mix tra quelli del precedente disco dei mc, "Pandemic", e il lavoro più recente di Attarus, "Lazarus Vol. 1. "

"Mutation Del Virus" a volte va per allontanarsi dai potenti tamburi che caratterizzano il sound hardcore hip hop, per andare a toccare qualcos'altro: dal club appeal a quello ambient, dall'atmosfera chill a quella confidenziale, passando per la trap e la melodia. Al rap di Contagio e alle produzioni di Attarus, al loro primo disco insieme ma con esperienze individuali pluriennali, si affiancano ottime collaborazioni, sia rime che graffi con artisti quali, DJ Skizo, Ape, Sab Sista, Polly, DJ Lil Bac, DJ Never, Easy Man, Sbend, Saraceno e Malavedo.

"Bird", la collaborazione con il giovane cantante Malavedo, è stato il primo video musicale uscito dal disco. Ha accompagnato l'uscita delle copie fisiche dell'album. Successivamente, "Mutation Del Virus" è stato quindi disponibile su tutti i principali negozi digitali. I due autori hanno anche pianificato l'uscita del loro secondo singolo, “Highest Learning”, la collaborazione scratch di DJ Skizo, colonna portante dell'hip hop italiano.

Il disco di 13 tracce è pieno di passione e amore, sia per la musica che per la cultura hip hop, un'epidemia di rime, concetti e groove, ben diversa da quella che ci ha tenuti chiusi in casa per mesi.

L'album è stato registrato da Beatpusher al Jdream Studio, Costamasnaga (LC); mixato e masterizzato da Stefano Fumagalli presso HD Studio, Lecco. La copertina è affidata alle mani certosine di Giorgio Pandiani, fumettista Leca già autore della celebre trilogia di Radici. L'uscita, quando possibile in relazione alle norme sanitarie, sarà supportata da spettacoli di presentazione dal vivo insieme all'eclettico dj Lecchese Menazone.

Alberto Zicchiero, aka Il Contagio, first started out as a bassist. He approached rap, then hip hop, in 2005. That year, he founded the NDP Crew, which is still in business. The hip hop movement from the city of Lecco, is composed of numerous MC and DJs. Following in the footsteps of the historic crew SDPL, NDP Crew began to increase its ranks and work in the recording studio, until debuting in 2007 with "Progetto Suburbano Mixtape Vol.1," which sees the collaboration with artists such as Francesco Paura, Mirko Miro, Kiave, Asher Kuno, Hyst, Oyoshe.

Nicola Maggi, aka Attarus, is a long-time beatmaker, who has been active since the second half of the 90s. After his first demos and various live performances, he co-produced the album "Come Ombre" by SDPL, the hip hop collective to which he belongs, which is an underground work that is considered a milestone in the music scene in the Lecco area.

2020 has been, according to many, the year of Covid-19. The year of contagion. In such a national and international context, A new album by Il Contagio and Attarus didn’t seem to be a priority. Although completing their work, the producer and MC decided to postpone their release due to the first lockdown, in respect to the many victims of the health emergency due to the spread of the virus. Now that the situation is slowly improving, even in the time of a partial lockdown, it was ripe for the release of “Mutazione Del Virus,” which was out in November on CD and digitally for the record label, Skill To Deal Records, Milan.

Skill To Deal Records, decided to focus on the Lecca duo composed of musicians long active in the scene with their respective crews, NDP and SDPL. The union between the artistic path of the mc and that of the producer brings to life a 100% hip hop record, with a current but still solid sound, recalling the golden age of the movement as much as new school sounds. The 1990’s rappata of Contagio flows into the rhythms proposed by Attarus in a mode to which both the old schooler and the new lever can be tuned. From the most classic themes to the most intimate reflections, the album develops leaving room for an articulated, mature, and deep atmospheric sound, the right mix between those of the mc's previous record, “Pandemic,” and Attarus's most recent work, “Lazarus Vol. 1.”

“Mutation Del Virus” sometimes goes to move away from powerful drums characterizing the hardcore hip hop sound, to go and touch something else: from the club appeal to the ambient one, from the chill atmosphere to the confidential one, passing through the trap and the melody. The rap of Contagio and the productions of Attarus, on their first record together but with long-term individual experiences, are flanked by excellent collaborations, both rhymes and scratches with artists such as, DJ Skizo, Ape, Sab Sista, Polly, DJ Lil Bac, DJ Never, Easy Man, Sbend, Saraceno, and Malavedo.

“Bird,” the collaboration with young singer Malavedo, was the first music video released from the record. It accompanied the release of physical copies of the album. After that, “Mutation Del Virus” was then available on all major digital stores. The two authors also planned the release of their second single, “Highest Learning,” the scratch collaboration of DJ Skizo, the backbone of Italian hip hop.

The 13-track record is full of passion and love, both for music and for hip hop culture- an epidemic of rhymes, concepts and grooves, quite different from the one that kept us locked in the house for months.

The album was recorded by Beatpusher at Jdream Studio, Costamasnaga (LC); mixed and mastered by Stefano Fumagalli at HD Studio, Lecco. The cover is entrusted to the carthusquin hands of Giorgio Pandiani, a Leca cartoonist already author of the well-known Radici trilogy. The release, when possible in relation to health regulations, will be supported by live presentation shows together with the eclectic Lecchese DJ Menazone.

How did this collaboration come about?

C. Quando iniziavo a muovere i primi passi nell''hip hop con NDP Crew, a Lecco la realtà era Sdpl. Una crew poliedrica, breakers, djs, mcees, writers cazzuti... tra cui Attarus. Sono fan di Attarus prima che suo amico e collaboratore. Dopo un lungo percorso artistico con NDP, chiedere beats ad Attarus è stato un passo che è venuto da sè... Un pezzo per volta fino a giungere a un album il passo è stato breve, ci eravamo allenati con due canzoni nel mio precedente album, Pandemia.

C. When I started taking my first steps in hip hop with NDP Crew, in Lecco the reality was Sdpl. A multifaceted crew, breakers, djs, mcees, badass writers... including Attarus. I'm a fan of Attarus before his friend and collaborator. After a long artistic journey with NDP, asking Attarus for beats was a step that came from himself... One piece at a time until we reached an album the step was short, we had trained with two songs on my previous album, Pandemic.

Avete lavorato insieme alle strumentali e alle liriche? Raccontateci il processo creativo da zero.

Have you worked together on instrumentals and lyrics? Tell us about the creative process from scratch.

A. Inizialmente non siamo subito partiti con l'idea di fare un album. Avevo alcuni beat nel cassetto che ho pensato potessero funzionare per Il Contagio, per cui ho iniziato a proporglieli. Lui ha fatto man mano una selezione e si è reso conto di avere in mano del buon materiale per un disco, così mi ha proposto di lavorare assieme a questo progetto. Dal canto mio posso dire di averlo incoraggiato a cimentarsi con sonorità che prima non aveva mai esplorato, e credo che ne sia valsa la pena. Ovviamente poi c'è stato un processo di raffinamento in cui abbiamo lavorato insieme arrangiando e ritoccando i beat nei minimi dettagli, per costruire dei brano organici e completi.

A. Initially we didn't immediately start with the idea of making an album. I had a few beats in the drawer that I thought might work for Contagion, so I started offering them to him. He made a selection and realized that he had good material in his hand for a record, so he proposed to work together on this project. For my part, I can say that I encouraged him to try his hand at the sonority he had never explored before, and I think it was worth it. Obviously then there was a refinement process in which we worked together arranging and retouching the beats in detail, to build organic and complete songs.

How did you decide the themes of the tracks?

C. Attarus mi ha proposto tante idee, 13 delle quali sono diventate canzoni attraverso il processo di selezione e d labor limae di cui si parlava poco fa. Le tematiche sono mie: spinte artistiche personali che sono state ispirate dalla musica del mio collega. Temi più intimi come Nuovo Documento Di Testo e Il Diritto Di Essere Debole; altri più di impatto come Papale Papale e il singolo Bird. Mutazione Del Virus racconta me stesso negli ultimi 3 anni.

C. Attarus proposed many ideas to me, 13 of which became songs through the process of selection and labor limae that was talked about just now. The themes are mine: personal artistic pushes that were inspired by my colleague's music. More intimate themes such as New Text Document and The Right to Be Weak; others more impactful as Papal Papal and the single Bird. Virus mutation tells me about the last 3 years.

How would you describe Mutazione Del Virus to a new listener?

C. Mutazione Del Virus è il mio secondo album solista, con cui mi discosto dal sound che mi ha caratterizzato per buona parte della mia carriera musicale. Non solo golden age hip hop, non-solo funk, ma anche nuove vibrazioni, suoni più attuali. New school ma declinata alla nostra maniera, come dimostrano la già citata Bird e Oggi Va Cosí. Una Mutazione di quello che è stato Il Contagio, condita con la nuova wave di Attarus, senza mai cadere in clichè banali. Tra le collaborazioni sono fiero di citare Dj Skizo, Ape, Sab Sista, Polly e Dj Lil Bac.

C. Mutazione Del Virus is my second solo album, with which I deviate from the sound that has characterized me for most of my musical career. Not only golden age hip hop, not only funk, but also new vibes, more current sounds. New school but declined in our way, as shown by the aforementioned Bird and Today Goes So. A Mutation of what was The Contagion, seasoned with the new wave of Attarus, without ever falling into trivial clichés. Among the collaborations I am proud to mention DJ Skizo, Ape, Sab Sista, Polly and DJ Lil Bac.

Quale immagine pensate che trasmetta la vostra musica?

What image do you think transmits your music?

C. Mi piace credere che l'immagine sia il fluire, lo scorrere. Impetuoso come NDP Skills Rare, riflessivo come Highest Learning. Il viaggio di due musicisti non più di primo pelo, un'armonica fusione di due punti di vista differenti.

C. I like to believe that the image is flowing, scrolling. As impetuous as NDP Skills Rare, thoughtful as Highest Learning. The journey of two musicians no more than first hair, a harmonious fusion of two different points of view.

Nel disco ci sono molte parti suonate e assoli strumentali, una scelta in controtendenza, soprattutto nel rap moderno. Quali band ispirano la vostra musica?

On the album there are many played parts and instrumental solos, a choice in contrast, especially in modern rap. Which bands inspire your music?

A. Alcuni piccoli assoli li ho inseriti io stesso nelle fasi finali di arrangiamento del brano, mentre altri più corposi sono frutto di collaborazioni, tra cui cito Farraz e Gabriele Campioni. Devo dire che Il Contagio ha sempre avuto una visione molto aperta su questo fronte, coinvolgendo tanti musicisti nei suoi pezzi anche in passato. Io appoggio totalmente questo approccio perché dà veramente qualcosa in più ai brani: quando si abbattono i limiti tra musica elettronica e musica "suonata", nasce semplicemente... buona musica. Sulle fonti di ispirazione, non voglio fare un elenco di band o artisti di riferimento, ma posso dire che personalmente ho sempre avuto un orizzonte musicale piuttosto ampio, ben oltre confini dell'hip hop. Mi piace tenermi aggiornato ma anche scavare nel passato. So bene poi che anche Il Contagio conosce e apprezza molti artisti in diversi ambiti della black music, e non solo.

A. Some small solos I inserted them myself in the final stages of arrangement of the song, while others more full-bodied are the result of collaborations, including i.e. Farraz and Gabriele Campioni. I must say that Il Contagio has always had a very open vision on this front, involving many musicians in its pieces even in the past. I totally support this approach because it really gives something more to the songs: when the limits between electronic music and "played" music are lowered, it is simply born ... good music. On sources of inspiration, I don't want to make a list of bands or reference artists, but I can say that Personally I have always had a rather wide musical horizon, far beyond the boundaries of hip hop. I like to keep up to date but also dig into the past. I also know that Il Contagio knows and appreciates many artists in different areas of black music, and not only.

C. Sfortunatamente, a causa della crisi sanitaria in atto, Mutazione Del Virus non ha ancora avuto un risvolto dal vivo sul palco. Ci auguriamo che accada il prima possibile! Per quanto riguarda ciò che viene prima, invece, sono felice di poter rispondere che la performance live ha sempre avuto un ruolo importante nel mio percorso: Spagna, Svizzera e tanti palchi di Italia, tra cui i Be There Or Be Square di Dj Skizo e aperture artisti potenti come Bonnot e M1 dei Dead Prez; Das FX; Slum Village; Kaos One; Esa; Colle Der Fomento; Jack The Smoker... Negli ultimi tre anni mi sono tolto qualche bella soddisfazione insieme al mio dj Menzone, e non vedo l'ora di tornare a quella vita.

C. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing health crisis, Virus Mutation has not yet had a live flap on stage. We hope it will happen as soon as possible! As for what comes before, however, I am happy to be able to reply that the live performance has always played an important role in my path: Spain, Switzerland and many stages of Italy, including DJ Skizo's Be There Or Be Square and powerful artists openings such as Bonnot and M1 by Dead Prez; Das FX; Slum Village; Kaos One; Mr Esa; Colle Der Fomento; Jack The Smoker... For the last three years I've taken some good satisfaction off with my DJ Menzone, and I can't wait to get back to that life.

Come descrivereste una tipica giornata in studio?

How would you describe a typical studio day?

C. Per quanto mi riguarda lo studio è registrazione e ascolto, registrazione e ascolto. Nell'ultimo anno ho registrato quasi unicamente su beats di Attarus, eccetto qualche collaborazione di prossima uscita. A Jdream Studio registro e mi spacco i polmoni a suon di rap; a HD Studio ascolto e riascolto, insieme al buon Stefano Fumagalli, cercando il dettaglio perfetto.

C. As far as I'm concerned, the studio is recording and listening, recording and listening. In the last year I have recorded almost exclusively on beats by Attarus, except for a few upcoming collaborations. At Jdream Studio I register and break my lungs to the point of rap; at HD Studio I listen and listen again, together with the good Stefano Fumagalli, looking for the perfect detail.

C. Si, uscirà un nuovo singolo estratto da questo album. Però ora non vi sveliamo nulla! Stiamo per fare anche una sorpresa a chi ci segue... ma anche su questo manteniamo un po' di mistero.
