Intervista con Vincenzo Kira | @vincenzo_kira (Italiano & English)

Vincenzo Kira è un MC e beatmaker salentino. Cominciando con l'hip hop in adolescenza con i suoi primi testi e produzioni musicali, ha suonato con due troupe nella sua zona: inizialmente in "Headzout" e successivamente in "Black Lights". Durante questo periodo, le troupe si sono fatte conoscere in tutto il territorio attraverso jam, concorsi e aperture per artisti come Fabri Fibra, Salmo, Noyz Narcos e Dope D.O.D.

Nel 2015, Vincenzo ha debuttato il suo primo EP da solista, "Shinigami". Nel 2017, sponsorizzato da Elite Music, è uscito l'album "Stomako", che era accompagnato dal video originale e spudorato del singolo "Brazzers". Sempre nel 2017, è entrato a far parte del movimento underground nazionale fondato da Inoki Ness, "Rap Pirata".

Tra il 2017 e il 2018 Vincenzo è stato più produttivo che mai sfornando una serie di videoclip e singoli che lo hanno lanciato musicalmente sulla scena nazionale tra cui "La scimmia", "Gucci Gang Bang", "Kurt Cobain" e "Hellsong,” che mette in mostra l'originalità e l'irriverenza che lo rendono uno degli MC più imprevedibili sulla scena. I singoli, accompagnati da brani altrettanto colorati, sono tutti raccolti nel 2018 all'interno del mixtape, "Cattive Compagnie".

Successivamente, con Sutta Subbra, Vincenzo ha fondato la crew di Mad Monkey Mob rilasciando brani come "Folli con il flow" e "LaLaLa" insieme a Luis Resa.

L'ultimo singolo di Vincenzo, "DPCM", è stato pubblicato l'8 dicembre 2020.

Vincenzo Kira is an MC and beatmaker from Salento. Starting with hip hop in adolescence with his first lyrics and musical productions, he played with two crews in his area: initially in "Headzout," and later in "Black Lights." During this period, the crews made themselves known throughout the territory through jams, contests, and opening for artists such as Fabri Fibra, Salmo, Noyz Narcos, and Dope D.O.D.

In 2015, Vincenzo debuted his first solo EP, “Shinigami.” In 2017, sponsored by Elite Music, he came out with the album "Stomako," which was accompanied by the original and shameless video for the single, "Brazzers." Also in 2017, he joined the national underground movement founded by Inoki Ness, "Rap Pirata."

Between 2017 and 2018 Vincenzo was more productive than ever by churning out a series of video clips and singles that launched him musically on the national scene including, “La scimmia," "Gucci Gang Bang," "Kurt Cobain," and "Hellsong,” which showcase the originality and irreverence that makes him stand out as one of the most unpredictable MCs on the scene. The singles, accompanied by equally colorful tracks, are all collected in 2018 within the mixtape, “Cattive Compagnie.”

Later, with Sutta Subbra, Vincenzo founded the Mad Monkey Mob crew releasing tracks such as "Folli con il flow" and "LaLaLa" together with Luis Resa.

Vincenzo’s latest single, “DPCM,” was released on December 8, 2020.

Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?

What inspired you to become a musician?

È stata un po' come la classica vocazione che spinge un ragazzo a scegliere di farsi sacerdote. Non c'è stato un particolare motivo, ai tempi mi stavo appassionando al rap e così, d'istinto, scelsi di farlo.

It was a bit like the classic vocation that pushes a boy to choose to become a priest. There was no particular reason, at the time I was passionate about rap and so, instinctively, I chose to do it.

Quanti anni avevi quando hai iniziato a suonare?

How old were you when you started playing (music)?

Non ricordo esattamente l'età precisa ma è stato in adolescenza.

I don't remember the exact age but it was in adolescence.

Come descriveresti la tua musica?

How would you describe your music?

Degradante, ironica, esplicita, grottesca. Sicuramente è l'esatto opposto del sound e dell'immaginario, colorato, melodico ed egocentrico che va di tendenza oggi nella musica urban. Di solito paragono la mia musica ad una puntata di South Park.

Degrading, ironic, explicit, grotesque. It is certainly the exact opposite of sound and imagery, colorful, melodic, and self-centered that is trendy today in urban music. I usually compare my music to an episode of South Park.

Dove ti sei esibito? Hai dei prossimi concerti?

Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?

Ho fatto diversi live in puglia, la mia regione ed ho fatto spesso da open act ad artisti del calibro dei Dope D.O.D, Fibra, Salmo, Noyz, Dj Gruff, Inoki, Nitro, Jack the Smoker, Madman e Bassi Maestro. Riguardo la situazione "prossimi concerti", ahimè, è un po' critica per via del COVID. è tutto diventato un grosso punto interrogativo soprattutto per gli artisti indipendenti come me.

I have done several lives in Puglia, my region and I have often done as open act to artists of the caliber of Dope DOD,Fibra, Salmo, Noyz, Dj Gruff, Inoki, Nitro, Jack the Smoker, Madman and Bassi Maestro. Regarding the "upcoming concerts" situation, alas, it is a bit critical due to COVID. it all became big question mark especially for independent artists like me.

Dov'è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?

Where is your ideal place to perform?

In genere mi piacciono i posti all'aperto ma il fattore che reputo importante più del luogo è il pubblico, se ho a che fare con un pubblico fomentato riesco a percepire la sua energia e viceversa. Tutto ciò mi galvanizza portandomi ad uno stato d'ebrezza che mi fa performare il live nel migliore dei modi.

Generally, I like outdoor seats but the factor that I think is more important than the place it is the public, if I deal with a stirred up public, I can perceive its energy and vice versa. All this galvanizes me leading me to a state of intoxication that makes me perform the live in the best way.

Qual è la tua canzone preferita da esibire?

What is your favorite song to perform?

In primo luogo, spero di esibirmi presto col mio ultimo singolo DPCM (del quale è fuori da poco anche il videoclip ufficiale) proprio per capire quanto possa rendere dal vivo tale pezzo ma credo che, fino ad ora, il pezzo che rende di più live è "La scimmia", ciò me lo ha fatto capire anche la risposta positiva del pubblico le mie esibizioni.

Firstly I hope to perform soon with my latest single DPCM (of which the official video clip is also out recently) just to understand how much it can make this piece live but I believe that, so far, the piece that makes it more live is "La scimmia", which also made me understand the positive response of the public to my performances.

Quali musicisti famosi ammiri?

Which famous musicians do you admire?

In realtà ce ne sono diversi, appartenenti a diversi generi musicali, ma senza fare troppi nomi voglio citarne due in particolare. Uno è Tupac Shakur che ammiro non solo dal punto di vista musicale ma anche per l'influenza che ha avuto il suo personaggio.

A livello socio-culturale in quei tempi e che continua ad avere tutt'ora. L'altro è un nome italiano e se vi state aspettando un rapper vi sbagliate perché mi riferisco a Fabrizio De André, il miglior cantautore/scrittore/poeta dei nostri tempi.

In reality there are several, belonging to different musical genres, but without making too many names I want to mention two in particular. One is Tupac Shakur whom I admire not only from a musical point of view but also for the influence his character has had. At a socio-cultural level in those times and which it continues to have today. The other is an Italian name and if you are expecting a rapper you are wrong because I am referring to Fabrizio De André, the best songwriter / writer / poet of our times.

Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Quello di continuare a scrivere e a fare musica fregandomene del parere degli altri.

That of continuing to write and make music not caring about the opinion of others.

Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?

If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?

Toglierei di mezzo le hit estive radiofoniche reggaeton, darei più libertà all'artista visto che alcune robe sono studiate a tavolino per piacere al "grande pubblico" e darei più spazio a rappers che propongono tematiche e sound differenti dalla solita robetta autotunnata con melodie alla "Cristina D'Avena" e con tematiche superficiali.

I would get rid of the raggaeton summer radio hits, I would give the artist more freedom as some stuff is designed to please the "general public" and I would give more space to rappers who propose themes and sounds different from the usual stuff autotuned with "Cristina D'Avena" melodies and superficial themes.

Qual è un messaggio che vorresti dare ai tuoi fan?

What is a message you would like to give to your fans?

Siamo ancora liberi di esprimerci. Spesso pensiamo di esserlo ma non è così perché influenzati dal mondo dei social e delle mode del momento. Il fatto che molta gente storce il naso e si infastidisce ascoltando i miei testi (che spesso devo censurare su Youtube) ne è la prova.

We are still free to express ourselves. We often think we are but it is not so because we are influenced by the world social media and current trends. The fact that a lot of people turn up their noses and get annoyed listening to my lyrics (which I often have to censor on Youtube) is proof of this.

What’s next for you?

Attualmente sto lavorando all'uscita di un videoclip in collaborazione col mio giovane collega Vins SFB e sto gettando le basi per un progetto con la mia socia di crew Sutta Subbra. Il nome della crew è Mad Monkey Mob e non dovrebbe tardare ad uscire un video della crew insieme a Luis Resa. Vi assicuro che è tutta roba forte questa che è in cantiere. Per ciò che riguarda me come solista, voglio far uscire un altro singolo, ancora non so quale sarà so solo che caccerò fuori la traccia più forte che produrrò.

I am currently working on the release of a video clip in collaboration with my young colleague Vins SFB and I'm laying the groundwork for a project with my crew partner Sutta Subbra. The crew name is Mad Monkey Mob and a video of the crew with Luis Resa should not be long. I assure you that this is all strong stuff that is in the pipeline. As for me as a soloist, I want to release another single, I still don't know what it will be I just know that I will kick out the strongest track I will produce.
