Born in Rome, Lorenzo Santangelo is a singer-songwriter who began studying piano at the age of 4. After attending the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, he turned his attention to creating songs, fascinated by the great Italian songwriters.
In 2012, Lorenzo wrote a novel before leaving Italy to move to Australia, where he lived for 7 years, obtaining Australian citizenship. Starting in 2019, he collaborated with Radio SBS (the Australian national radio and television) for which he conceived and currently still hosts the weekly broadcast, "Parlando di Musica," which is now in its hundredth episode. He has interviewed leading artists of the Italian music scene including Caparezza, Frankie hi nrg mc, Willie Peyote, Tosca, Ron, Eugenio Finardi, Fabio Concato, Simona Molinari, Gio Evan, PFM, The Representative of Lista, and many others.
Once back in Italy, Lorenzo began to collaborate with various artists, working as an author. In recent years he has released two Eps, "Canzoni in fuga," and "Respiro," as well as the LP, “L’ultimo album d’esordio.”
Lorenzo’s latest single, “L’arancio,” was released on December 10, 2021.

Nel 2012 Lorenzo ha scritto un romanzo prima di lasciare l'Italia per trasferirsi in Australia, dove ha vissuto per 7 anni, ottenendo la cittadinanza australiana. Dal 2019 collabora con Radio SBS (la radiotelevisione nazionale australiana) per la quale ha ideato e tuttora conduce il settimanale "Parlando di Musica", giunto alla sua centesima puntata. Ha intervistato artisti di spicco del panorama musicale italiano tra cui Caparezza, Frankie hi nrg mc, Willie Peyote, Tosca, Ron, Eugenio Finardi, Fabio Concato, Simona Molinari, Gio Evan, PFM, The Representative of Lista, e molti altri.
Una volta tornato in Italia, Lorenzo iniziò a collaborare con vari artisti, lavorando come autore. Negli ultimi anni ha pubblicato due Ep, "Canzoni in fuga" e "Respiro", oltre all'LP "L'ultimo album d'esordio".

What inspired you to become a musician?
Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?
In my case it wasn't a choice. I started studying piano at the age of 4 and the first memories I have are related to this. It's like I was born on those keys, so a life without music would not be conceivable for me.
Nel mio caso non è stata una scelta. Ho iniziato a studiare pianoforte a 4 anni e i primi ricordi che ho sono legati a questo. È come se fossi nato su quei tasti, per cui una vita senza musica non sarebbe concepibile per me.
How would you describe your music?
Come descriveresti la tua musica?
I am a songwriter who likes to always try to write something different. Musically I wrote in almost every genre, then whether it is good or bad is to be seen. But yes, from a certain point of view I am a quick change.
Sono un cantautore a cui piace cercare di scrivere sempre qualcosa di diverso. Musicalmente ho scritto in quasi tutti i generi esistenti, poi che lo faccia bene o male è da vedere. Però sì, da un certo punto di vista sono un trasformista.
Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?
Dove ti sei esibito? Hai dei prossimi concerti?
I'm not a kid anymore so I did a few things. I remember with particular emotion, two performances at the antipodes: one in a very small place, with very few people, but for some reason a unique atmosphere had been created. The other in Sydney, when I performed at the opening of the Sanremo Giovani World Tour in a packed theater, where I, who was living in Australia at the time, played a little at home. Really beautiful. There are no concerts in sight, because now it is impossible to predict what will happen.
Non sono più un ragazzino quindi un po' di cosine le ho fatte. Ricordo con particolare emozione due esibizioni agli antipodi: una in un posto piccolissimo, con pochissima gente, ma per qualche motivo si era creata un'atmosfera unica. L'altra a Sydney, quando mi sono esibito in apertura del Sanremo Giovani World Tour in un teatro strapieno, dove io, che all'epoca vivevo in Australia, giocavo un po' in casa. Bellissimo davvero. Concerti in vista non ce ne sono, perché ora è impossibile fare previsioni su cosa accadrà.
Where would your ideal concert be?
Dov'è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?
Probably some suggestive place in Rome, my city. I think it would be very exciting to play in a particular intimate context.
Probabilmente qualche posto suggestivo di Roma, la mia città. Credo sarebbe molto emozionante suonare in un contesto intimo particolare.
What is your favorite song to perform?

It is usually always the last one I wrote. In recent months certainly, “L'arancio.”

Which famous musicians do you admire?

Many Italian songwriters are attracted by the letter G: Gaetano, Guccini, Graziani, Gaber. But in reality, there are many, even much more recent.
Moltissimi cantautori italiani, sono attratto dalla lettera G: Gaetano, Guccini, Graziani, Gaber. Ma in realtà sono tantissimi, anche molto più recenti.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?
My friend Andrea Mingardi, one of the greatest of our music, once told me: after writing a song you have to ask yourself if the world needs such a song. It is a teaching that I never forget and that helps me select ideas.
Il mio amico Andrea Mingardi, uno dei più grandi della nostra musica, una volta mi ha detto: dopo aver scritto una canzone devi chiederti se al mondo serve una canzone così. È un insegnamento che non dimentico mai e che mi aiuta a selezionare le idee.
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
I would first tell you what I would not change ... the world of Italian discography is a disaster, poorly managed for decades by people who know little or nothing about music. It is a banality, but it would take more meritocracy. I met more artists working at the call center than touring for record labels.
Farei prima a dirti cosa non cambierei... il mondo della discografia italiana è un disastro, mal gestito da decenni da personaggi che sanno poco o nulla di musica. È una banalità, ma ci vorrebbe più meritocrazia. Ho conosciuto più artisti lavorando al call center che girando per le etichette discografiche.
What is a message you would like to give to your fans?
Qual è un messaggio che vorresti dare ai tuoi fan?
I don't think I have fans, but to those who enjoy my music I have no message to give. A songwriter should do it with his songs, and I try.
Non credo di avere fan, ma a quelli che apprezzano la mia musica non ho nessun messaggio da dare. Un cantautore dovrebbe farlo con le sue canzoni, e io ci provo.
What’s next for you?

I want to see if I can release an album and promote it well, and I would definitely like to do some concerts. Unfortunately, in this period it is difficult.
Voglio vedere se si riesce a pubblicare un album e a promuoverlo per bene, e sicuramente vorrei fare dei concerti. Purtroppo in questo periodo è difficile.
