Classe 1977, Marco Rollo è un compositore e pianista italiano originario di Lecce. La sua carriera musicale è costellata di esperienze multiformi, poiché l'artista ha trascorso il suo tempo costantemente a sperimentare e cercare nuove sonorità. Born in 1977, Marco Rollo is an Italian Composer and pianist originally from Lecce. His musical career is studded with multifaceted experiences, as the artist has spent his time constantly experimenting and looking for new sounds. During his career, he has had important collaborations with artists such as saxophonist Raffaele Casarano and Paolo Fresu on the “Argento” record, and Roy Paci for Emergency and Amnesty International.
After multiple experiences between Balkan and funk, Marco Rollo approached the world of electronic music with neo-classical sound, ranging between jazz and modernity, where the strong point is the sounds of the piano, acoustic with electronics, analog synths, and pedal boards. It is here that he found his connotation, his comfort areas. His search treaded paths in jazz with forays into dub step, to then move on to more progressive sounds, followed by the electronic sounds of northern Europe combined with the soft melodies of pianists such as Esbjorn Svensson and Tord Gustavsen. Morcuf, Erik Truffaz, Cinematic Orchestra and Zero 7 are a few of the artists who inspired his way of composing, proposing a new style whose absolute pivot is the piano.
Three of Marco Rollo’s solo works, “Fluid” (2017), “Drops” (2020), and his latest album “Pinwheel” (2021), were all written in one take from the heart, directly to the keys of a 1918 Steinway & Sons grand piano. his minimalist sound expresses the most intimate and sincere emotions: the solitude of this time alongside the unbridled desire to share and embrace the listener through sweet and captivating atmospheres, intense and poignant melodies, all resting on warm and enveloping sound carpets. In each of the “Pinwheel” tracks, colors took shape, as in the single “Light Blue,” ‘the sound of color of the sky of a new spring that we can't wait to arrive’. Each color corresponds to a different emotion: the disc itself is a pinwheel of moods that humanity faces in this moment of global difficulty, where the desire for redemption and hope alternate with disorientation and fear.

What inspired you to become a musician?
È avvenuto tutto in modo naturale e casuale. Avevo 8 anni e partecipai a una manifestazione canore nel mio piccolo paese (San Cesario) e dissero ai miei genitori che avrei potuto imparare uno strumento.
It all happened naturally and randomly. I was 8 years old, and I participated in a singing event in my small town (San Cesario), and they told my parents that I could learn an instrument.

La musica dei nostri tempi viene sempre catalogata, io non amo definire il mio genere, perché credo che ogni musicista abbia il suo stile. Specialmente quella che compongo, viene definita Neo-Classical, perché parte dalla musica classica, ma può avere mille sfaccettature, passando dal cinematic, elettronico o solo pianoforte.
The music of our times is always cataloged, I don't like to define my genre, because I believe that every musician has his own style. Especially the one I compose is called Neo-Classical, because it starts from classical music, but can have a thousand facets, passing from cinematic, electronic, or just piano.

Right now, I'm trying to promote my latest album, “Pinwheel,” and get it around the crowd.
