Born in 1993, Edoardo Di Marco, also known as “Molecole,” is an Italian singer-songwriter from Rome. He started playing the guitar during his adolescence, and immediately began writing songs. Music has played in the background during his degree in Chemical Engineering, and the early years of him working in a consulting firm.
Molecole’s musical project started to blossom after a meeting with an old high school friend, who is now the music producer, Delta. He started creating elements of Italian songwriting that intertwine with pop and electronic sounds, referring to the Roman indie sphere. From an introspective soul, his writing seeks to tell emotions and paint stories.
At the end of November 2020, Molecole released his debut single "Nemmeno Te,” followed by his most recent single, Diluvio,” on February 15, 2021.

La musica ha suonato in sottofondo durante la sua laurea in Ingegneria Chimica e nei primi anni in cui ha lavorato in una società di consulenza.
Il progetto musicale di Molecole è iniziato a sbocciare dopo un incontro con un vecchio compagno di liceo, che ora è il produttore musicale, Delta. Inizia a creare elementi del cantautorato italiano che si intrecciano con sonorità pop ed elettroniche, rifacendosi alla sfera indie romana. Da un'anima introspettiva, la sua scrittura cerca di raccontare emozioni e dipingere storie.
Alla fine di novembre 2020, Molecole ha pubblicato il suo singolo di debutto "Nemmeno Te", seguito dal suo singolo più recente, Diluvio, il 15 febbraio 2021.
What inspired you to become a musician?
Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?
Ever since I picked up the guitar, I felt the need to say something through music. At various times for studies or other commitments I put it aside, but then the need to go back meant that at a certain point I said to myself that I could not continue to ignore this thing. So, I started to devote time to music, I started writing again, I started taking singing lessons and getting involved. Surely the meeting with a high school friend, now a producer, aka Delta, helped me to take this passion more seriously.
Da quando ho preso in mano la chitarra ho sentito il bisogno di dire qualcosa attraverso la musica. In vari momenti per gli studi o altri impegni la mettevo da parte, ma poi il bisogno di ritornarci ha fatto sì che ad un certo punto mi sono detto che non potevo continuare a ignorare questa cosa. Quindi ho cominciato a dedicare del tempo alla musica, ho ricominciato a scrivere, ho cominciato a prendere lezioni di canto e a mettermi in gioco. Sicuramente l’incontro con un compagno del liceo, oggi produttore, in arte Delta, mi ha aiutato a prendere più sul serio questa passione.
How old were you when you started playing (music)?
Quanti anni avevi quando hai iniziato a suonare?
Thirteen. My uncle had fixed my mother's guitar and gave it to me. From there I started learning the first self-taught chords and immediately tried to write and sing something over them.
Tredici. Mio zio aveva sistemato la chitarra di mia madre e me l’aveva regalata. Da lì ho cominciato ad imparare i primi accordi da autodidatta e subito ho provato a scrivere e cantarci sopra qualcosa.
How would you describe your music?
Come descriveresti la tua musica?
I would describe my music as a photo album, a set of images that tell a situation or an inner state. I believe that music must be able to speak to everyone at least potentially and to do so, there is a need for situations in which everyone can find themselves. As I think it is natural then every song is a piece of me, and it is very important that the music is true to be able to say something.
La mia musica la descriverei come un album fotografico, un insieme di immagini che raccontano una situazione o uno stato interiore. Credo che la musica debba poter parlare a tutti almeno in potenza e per farlo c’è bisogno di situazioni in cui ciascuno si possa ritrovare. Come penso sia naturale poi ogni canzone è un pezzetto di me ed è molto importante che la musica sia vera per poter dire qualcosa.
Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?

I am performing in various venues in Rome, often for open mic with other emerging artists to start making my music known. Fortunately, the music pushes us to return to people's lives and evenings.
Mi sto esibendo in vari locali a Roma, spesso per open mic con altri artisti emergenti per cominciare a far conoscere la mia musica. Per fortuna la musica spinge per ritornare nella vita e nelle serate della gente.
Where would your ideal concert be?
Dov'è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?
As an ideal concert, I think more of a guitar playing with friends on the beach because that's what made me start singing in front of others, a bit like my usual stage. Then it is obvious that an arena or a concert at the Circus Maximus would be wonderful, I think dreaming big is always good.
Come concerto ideale penso più ad una schitarrata tra amici sulla spiaggia perché è quello che mi ha fatto cominciare a cantare davanti ad altri, un po’ come fosse il mio palco di sempre. Poi ovvio che un palazzetto o un concerto al Circo Massimo sarebbe stupendo, sognare in grande penso faccia sempre bene.
What is your favorite song to perform?
Qual è la tua canzone preferita da esibire?
It's a good question ... I don't know if I really have a favorite, I really like "Nemmeno Te" which was my debut song, the one I sang for the first time in front of others. So, it was a bit like coming out and giving others a part of me and it's a bit like that every time I sing it. Then I am fond of an unreleased song of mine called “Tevere,” which I often sing live too.
È una bella domanda… non so se ne ho davvero una preferita, mi piace molto “Nemmeno Te” che è stata la mia canzone d’esordio, quella che ho cantato per la prima volta davanti ad altri. Per cui è stato un po’ come uscire allo scoperto e dare agli altri una parte di me ed è un po’ così ogni volta che la canto. Poi sono affezionato ad un mio inedito che si chiama “Tevere” che anche canto spesso live.
Which famous musicians do you admire?
Quali musicisti celebri ammiri?
I have great respect for some indie musicians to whom I refer and who have somewhat paved the way such as I Cani, Gazzelle, and Calcutta. I think we owe it to them and to others for the opening in Italy of a way of writing and making music that is closer to the new generations and a way of speaking that is more everyday and straightforward. As a songwriter I greatly admire Lucio Dalla who I discovered late.
Ho grande stima di alcuni musicisti del panorama indie a cui mi rifaccio e che hanno un po’ aperto la strada come I Cani, Gazzelle, Calcutta. Penso che si debba a loro e ad altri l’apertura in Italia di un modo di scrivere e di fare musica che si avvicina di più alle nuove generazioni e ad un modo di parlare più quotidiano e schietto. Come cantautore ammiro molto Lucio Dalla che ho scoperto tardi.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?
In life as in music I think it was to express what I think and to love the truth about oneself and about things. Sometimes we are afraid to come up with ideas that others may not like, there is a lot of time for "politically correct" enough to block even harmless ideas often. I usually struggle with this because for me it means doing a great job on yourself, searching for your own truth. I think I'll always carry it with me.
Nella vita come nella musica penso sia stato quello di esprimere ciò che penso e di amare la verità su sé stessi e sulle cose. A volte abbiamo paura di tirare fuori idee che possono non piacere agli altri, vige molto il tempo del “politicamente corretto” tanto da bloccare idee anche inoffensive spesso. Di solito faccio molta fatica in questo perché per me vuol dire fare un grande lavoro su sé stessi, di ricerca della propria verità. Penso me lo porterò sempre dietro.
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
In this moment in which the music sector is still heavily penalized by the pandemic, I would like concerts to return as they once were. Then I would give more space to many emerging artists like me who have things to say, but who reach a very limited audience. In short, I would equally give everyone their opportunity to stand out and make themselves heard.
In questo momento in cui il settore della musica è tanto penalizzato ancora dalla pandemia vorrei tornassero i concerti come una volta. Poi darei più spazio a tanti artisti emergenti come me che hanno cose da dire, ma che arrivano ad un pubblico molto ristretto. Insomma, darei a tutti ugualmente la propria opportunità di emergere e di farsi sentire.
What is a message you would like to give to your fans?
Qual è un messaggio che vorresti dare ai tuoi fan?
A message that I would like to give is to follow your passions, to find them, if you do not yet know each other, and to follow them. I personally believe passions are the way to achieve our happiness and our well-being, it is not worth ignoring them.
Un messaggio che vorrei dare è quello di seguire le proprie passioni, di trovarle, se ancora non si conoscono, e di seguirle. Le passioni credo personalmente siano la strada per il raggiungimento della nostra felicità e del nostro stare bene, non vale la pena ignorarle.

First of all, to release more music because we are only at the beginning and maybe do a little tour in the summer, why not?
Anzitutto far uscire altra musica perché siamo solo all’inizio e magari fare un piccolo tour in estate perché no.
