Il progetto nasce a Milano nel 2016 quando Lorenzo Garofalo in arte ULULA incontra tra i banchi del CPM Music Institute quelli che diventeranno i componenti de La Foresta: Andrea Mandelli, Filippo Maria Chiarini, Maximilian Agostini e Simone Carradori. L’obiettivo è quello di accompagnare la voce e i testi del cantautore sperimentando tra il rock e il folk alla ricerca di un sound insolito e contaminato da diversi generi e sonorità. Da subito il progetto funziona ed è protagonista in diversi contesti musicali, tra cui il MonigArt Festival (BS), un evento FAI al Tempio del Lazzaretto di Verona (in apertura ad Andrea Valeri) e a Mantova per Radio Pico. Nel dicembre 2016 accompagnano Franco Mussida all'Auditorium Massimo di Roma dove, oltre a suonare brani celebri del chitarrista, presentano alcuni inediti del proprio repertorio, con successivi concerti tra cui: Circolo Ohibò di Milano, il Festival River e Sofar Sounds a Verona. Nel 2017 arriva il primo tour Estate povera che tocca 15 città italiane, tra cui Bologna, Firenze, Verona, Bergamo e Rimini. Nel periodo invernale dello stesso anno parte il tour BLACKINVERNO con ultima tappa a Torino. Nel gennaio 2018 si concludono le registrazioni del primo EP prodotto da Max Elli. Nel maggio del 2018 esce Lacerba il primo singolo di ULULA & La Foresta. Nello stesso periodo avviene l'incontro e la collaborazione con Miele e con il produttore Lorenzo Cazzaniga che sfocerà con la produzione del brano Un uomo e una donna. Nel 2019, con l'aggiunta di Alessio Profeti alle percussioni, entrano al CoreTzone Studio di Diego Maggi per registrare il nuovo disco e contemporaneamente suonano per il tour di Chiara Dello Iacovo. Oddio l'oblio è il brano pubblicato da ULULA & La Foresta che ha vinto nelle audizioni live il premio Musicultura come miglior performance aggiudicandosi un posto nella compilation Musicultura 2020.
The project was born in Milan in 2016 when Lorenzo Garofalo aka ULULA meets among the benches of the CPM Music Institute those who will become the members of La Foresta: Andrea Mandelli, Filippo Maria Chiarini, Maximilian Agostini and Simone Carradori. The goal is to accompany the singer-songwriter's voice and lyrics by experimenting between rock and folk in search of an unusual sound contaminated by different genres and sounds. The project immediately works and is the protagonist in various musical contexts including the MonigArt Festival (BS), a FAI event at the Tempio del Lazzaretto in Verona (opening to Andrea Valeri) and in Mantua for Radio Pico. In December 2016 they accompanied Franco Mussida to the Massimo Auditorium in Rome where, in addition to playing famous pieces by the guitarist, they present some unreleased songs from their repertoire, with subsequent concerts including: Circolo Ohibò in Milan, the River Festival and Sofar Sounds in Verona. In 2017 comes the first Poor Summer tour that touches 15 Italian cities including Bologna, Florence, Verona, Bergamo, and Rimini. In the winter of the same year the BLACKINVERNO tour starts with the last stop in Turin. In January 2018 the recording of the first EP produced by Max Elli ends. In May 2018 Lacerba released the first single of ULULA & La Foresta. In the same period the meeting and the collaboration with Miele and with the producer Lorenzo Cazzaniga takes place which will lead to the production of the song Un uomo e una donna. In 2019, with the addition of Alessio Profeti to percussion, they enter Diego Maggi's CoreTzone Studio to record the new album and at the same time play for Chiara Dello Iacovo's tour. Oddio l'oblio is the song published by ULULA & La Foresta that won the Musicultura award for best performance in the live auditions, winning a place in the Musicultura 2020 compilation.

How was your group formed?
Siamo stati tutti allievi al CPM music institute di Milano. Io, Ulula, scrivevo canzoni e stavo cercando una band con cui arrangiare e suonare i brani. Così è nato il progetto: tra i banchi di scuola.
We were all students at the CPM music institute in Milan. Me, Ulula, was writing songs and was looking for a band to arrange and play the songs with. This is how the project was born: among the school desks.
Dove avete avuto l'idea del nome del vostro gruppo?
Where did you get the idea of the name of your group?
Ulula nasce dal tentativo, mal riuscito, di cantare in tonalità molto alte, cercando di raggiungere livelli simili alle grandi voci della musica Rock. Il risultato assomigliava più ad un ululato. LaForesta, invece, direi per una coerenza simbolica.
Ulula was born from the unsuccessful attempt to sing in very high tones, trying to reach levels similar to the great voices of Rock music. The result was more like a howl. LaForesta, on the other hand, I would say for a symbolic coherence.
Come viene scritta la vostra musica?
How is your music written?
Io scrivo il testo ed una struttura iniziale e portante della canzone, subito dopo avviene
un’immersione ne LaForesta: il brano si colora, le melodie si affilano, gli spazi si allargano…
Poi si suona e tutto prende vita.
I write the lyrics and an initial and supporting structure of the song, immediately afterwards goes to LaForesta: the piece is colored, the melodies are sharpened, the spaces widen...
Then you play and everything comes to life.
Come descrivereste la vostra musica a un nuovo ascoltatore?
How would you describe your music to a new listener?
Trovo molto difficile descrivere sé stessi, la musica è già una descrizione di noi stessi, quindi ora dovrei “descrivere una descrizione”, non avrebbe molto senso. Però posso dire che dentro la nostra musica c’è: dell’esotico, del blues, degli elementi più moderni, e che forse si può ascoltare in contesti anche molto diversi fra loro.
I find it very difficult to describe us, music is already a description of ourselves, so now I would have to “describe a description”, it wouldn't make much sense. But I can say that inside our music there is: of the exotic, of the blues, of the most modern elements, and that perhaps it can be heard in very different contexts.
Quale immagine pensate che trasmetta la vostra musica?
What image do you think your music conveys?
Dovremo chiedere a chi l’ascolta, di sicuro per noi c’è del mistico e spesso c’è della geografia, la volontà di andare a vedere cosa succede in altri luoghi e provare a raccontarlo.
We will have to ask those who listen to it, for sure for us there is some mystic and often there is geography, the will to go and see what happens in other places and try to tell it.
Quali altre band ispirano la vostra musica?
What other bands inspire your music?
Siamo molto affezionati ai grandi grupponi della storia del rock, ma anche al cantautorato nostrano e oltreoceano. E non abbiamo grossi problemi cronologici, le nostre orecchie si muovono leggere tra gli anni del secolo appena passato.
We are very fond of the big groups of rock history, but also of Italian songwriters and overseas. And we don't have big chronological problems, our ears move lightly between the years of the last century.

Where have you performed?
Beh, direi un po’ ovunque: club, teatri, festival, un po’ in tutta Italia.
Ci piace anche suonare in posti particolari, in mezzo alle montagne, o sulla spiaggia a 3 dal mare.
È capitato di suonare in condizioni veramente curiose!
Well, I would say a little everywhere: clubs, theaters, festivals, a little all over Italy.
We also like to play in particular places, in the middle of the mountains, or on the beach 3 from the sea.. In really curious conditions!
Come descrivereste una tipica giornata in studio?
How would you describe a typical day in the studio?
Da qualche anno a questa parte, Andrea Mandelli, Maximilian Agostini e Giacomo Mandelli, rispettivamente il bassista il tastierista e il fonico della foresta, hanno aperto uno studio: La Tana Del Lupo, che è un po’ casa. Le giornate sono vissute con la sensazione di essere in cameretta a suonare con l’amichetto dopo la scuola…
For some years now, Andrea Mandelli, Maximilian Agostini, and Giacomo Mandelli, respectively the bassist, keyboardist, and sound engineer of La Foresta, have opened a studio: La Tana Del Lupo, which is a bit like home. The days are lived with the feeling of being in the bedroom playing with a friend after school...
