Born in 1990, Vanessa Semprini is an Italian artist from Rimini. Since childhood, she showed interest in music before turning it into one of her great passions. At the age of nine, she enrolled in a music school where she began to study classical piano, then started studying singing during adolescence. She then attended scientific high school and graduated in Pharmaceuticals.
Vanessa writes and composes songs, and in 2008, she participated in some singing competitions, standing out. In 2009 she had her first victories that gave her the energy to continue. She showed up with her songs and wons the Malatesta Trophy, the Montescudo Live, the Pepita Live Festival, and the semifinal of the Saint Vincent Festival. That same year, she was called by local TV to participate in a broadcast every Friday evening where she performed as a singer as well as had the role of co-presenter, which continued through 2010, until the end of the broadcast. During that time, she became the singer of a couple of groups until mid-2013, when the partnership ended, and she realized that her preferred path in the music field is solo.
Vanessa continued to participate in other singing competitions and in 2011 and 2013, she got on the podium of the Festival of New Voices of Sant’Andrea di Parma. In 2014, she won the Silver Rooster at the festival of the same name in the province of Pesaro. She was also a semifinalist at the Voci Nuove Festival of Castrocaro Terme in 2017 and reached the National Semifinals of the Sanremo Area 2017 and 2018. On October 30, 2019, she won the "La Compagnia di Donida" award at the tenth festival in honor of Carlo Donida and won a scholarship to study at the CET of Mogol. In 2013 with the Monocroma label, she released a cover EP and in July 2016 with the Pleiadi label, she came out with three unreleased songs.
Since 2017, Vanessa has been collaborating with Maestro Umberto Iervolino and carrying out a musical project with him. The single "Dieci passi" was released on July 16, 2021, and on October 1st, her song, “Giusto il tempo di un miracolo,” featuring Alberto Fortis, was published on all digital platforms.

Vanessa scrive e compone canzoni, e nel 2008 ha partecipato ad alcuni concorsi canori, distinguendosi. Nel 2009 ha ottenuto le sue prime vittorie che le hanno dato l'energia per continuare. Si è presentata con le sue canzoni e ha vinto il Trofeo Malatesta, il Montescudo Live, il Pepita Live Festival e la semifinale del Festival di Saint Vincent. Nello stesso anno, è stata chiamata dalla TV locale per partecipare a una trasmissione ogni venerdì sera in cui si è esibita come cantante oltre ad avere il ruolo di co-presentatrice, che è continuata per tutto il 2010, fino alla fine della trasmissione. Durante quel periodo, è diventata la cantante di un paio di gruppi fino alla metà del 2013, quando la partnership è finita, e ha capito che la sua strada preferita in campo musicale è quella solista.
Vanessa ha continuato a partecipare ad altri concorsi canori e nel 2011 e 2013 è salita sul podio del Festival di Voci Nuove di Sant'Andrea di Parma. Nel 2014 ha vinto il Gallo d'Argento all'omonimo festival in provincia di Pesaro. È stata inoltre semifinalista al Festival Voci Nuove di Castrocaro Terme nel 2017 e ha raggiunto le Semifinali Nazionali dell'Area Sanremo 2017 e 2018. Il 30 ottobre 2019 ha vinto il premio "La Compagnia di Donida" al decimo festival in onore di Carlo Donida e ha vinto una borsa di studio al CET di Mogol. Nel 2013 con l'etichetta Monocroma pubblica un EP di cover e nel luglio 2016 con l'etichetta Pleiadi esce con tre brani inediti.
Dal 2017 Vanessa collabora con il Maestro Umberto Iervolino e con lui realizza un progetto musicale. Il 16 luglio 2021 è uscito il singolo "Dieci passi" e il 1° ottobre è stata pubblicata su tutte le piattaforme digitali il suo brano "Giusto il tempo di un miracolo", con la partecipazione di Alberto Fortis.
What inspired you to become a musician?
Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?
Already at the age of five I was singing almost all the songs from the cassettes that my mother had in her car by heart, from Giorgia to Mina, Ornella Vanoni, Patty Pravo, etc. Each car trip was therefore accompanied by a concert of mine. I had a lot of fun and if there was an opportunity, I was eager to have someone else listen to my voice besides my family. The feeling I got from singing was indescribably pleasant and I couldn't help it. I started playing the piano at the age of nine and then studying singing.
Già all'età di cinque anni cantavo a memoria quasi tutte le canzoni delle cassette che mia mamma aveva in auto, da Giorgia a Mina, Ornella Vanoni, Patty Pravo ecc. Ogni viaggio in auto era quindi accompagnato da un mio concerto. Mi divertivo tantissimo e se c'era l'occasione smaniavo all'idea di fare ascoltare la mia voce a qualcun altro oltre ai miei familiari. La sensazione che provavo nel cantare era indescrivibilmente piacevole e non potevo farne a meno. Ho iniziato a suonare il pianoforte a nove anni e poi a studiare canto.

My music adheres to my experience, to my DNA. It is a story in which time stops to make room for a concept, an explanation. My music is action, heartbeat, life.

What is your favorite song to perform?

There are two songs from my repertoire that I particularly love to perform when I perform, namely “Murderer of Blue Skies,” by Chris Cornell and “Teardrop,” by Massive Attack.

I imagine my ideal concert at the Verona Arena, where art and history come together, to experience the magic of the largest amphitheater in the world under the stars.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

I listen to different musical genres: from classical music, pop, rock, to jazz. I like to open my mind to different styles and languages to trace my path and make it unique.
Two absolute icons that have left their mark in the history of music and in me are Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson.
Among the musicians I admire Elton John, Steve Wonder, Wictor Wooten, Markus Miller, Eddie Van Halen, Pat Metheny, Norah Jones, Tory Amos and I am also fond of the Italian songwriter and to name a few, Fossati, Battiato, De Gregori, Dalla, Cremonini, Brunori Sas.
Ascolto diversi generi musicali: dalla musica classica, pop, rock, fino al jazz. Mi piace aprire la mente a stili e linguaggi diversi per tracciare il mio percorso e renderlo unico.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

I received a lot of advice, some proved to be useful right away, others I received from people who were forced to say something and that did not concern me. One struck me in a particular way: "Have respect for yourself, for your identity even when you receive no and doors in your face. Do not allow anyone to tell you that you cannot do something. Success, if it does arrive, must be an accident and it must find yourself with your feet firmly anchored to the ground and stay there.”
Di consigli ne ho ricevuti tanti, alcuni si sono rivelati utili sin da subito, altri li ho ricevuti da persone che erano costrette a dire qualcosa e che non mi riguardavano. Uno mi ha colpito in maniera particolare: "Abbi rispetto di te stessa, della tua identità anche quando riceverai no e porte in faccia. Non permettere a nessuno di dirti che non puoi fare qualcosa. Il successo se arriverà dovrà essere un incidente di percorso e dovrà trovarvi con i piedi ben ancorati a terra e lì rimanere.”
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
There are several aspects of the music industry that I would like to change. The modus operandi of record companies is linked to fixed and secure turnover. We no longer invest in innovation but in what makes. The more a product, including the artist, is strange and artificial, the more it seems to deserve to be produced. I don't think weirdness is always synonymous with substance. Innovation passes through the real uniqueness of an artist with a talent, who manages to be immediate and original because he is true. We are moving more and more towards a general musical flattening in which the hits are like cakes to expire, copy and paste of the previous ones. The music revolves around the numbers of visualizations and the artist's image as if the latter were an empty shell. As for the channels of use of music, I believe that Youtube and Spotify give everyone the opportunity to be listened to, but however good a product in the home environment can be, thanks to all the electronic tricks, autotune and various adjustments, anyone it can potentially seem like a phenomenon. Professionalism is something else, in fact when you are in a serious production studio where the rule of "good first" is almost in force, things change because you have to prove that you are true professional musicians. I would like talent to be removed from the absolute power they exercise in music, to go back to scouting not only on the web but also live, where nothing can be sweetened.
Ci sono diversi aspetti del settore musicale che vorrei cambiare. Il modus operandi delle case discografiche è legato al fatturato fisso e sicuro. Non si investe più sull'innovazione ma su ciò che rende. Tanto più un prodotto, artista compreso, è strano ed artefatto, più sembra meritare di essere prodotto. Non credo che stranezza sia sempre sinonimo di sostanza. L'innovazione passa attraverso la reale unicità di un artista dotato di un talento, che riesca ad essere immediato ed originale perché vero. Andiamo sempre più verso un appiattimento musicale generale in cui le hits sono come torte a scadenza, copia e incolla delle precedenti. La musica gira intorno ai numeri delle visualizzazioni e all'immagine dell'artista come se quest'ultimo fosse un guscio vuoto. Per quanto riguarda i canali di fruizione della musica, credo che Youtube e Spotify diano la possibilità a tutti di essere ascoltati ma per quanto un prodotto in ambiente domestico possa essere di buona qualità, grazie a tutti gli artifizi elettronici, autotune ed aggiustamenti vari, chiunque può sembrare potenzialmente un fenomeno. Altro è la professionalità, infatti, quando ci si trova in uno studio di produzione serio in cui vige quasi la regola del "buona la prima", le cose cambiano perché bisogna dimostrare di essere veri musicisti professionisti. Mi piacerebbe che venisse tolto ai talent il potere assoluto che esercitano nella musica, che si tornasse a fare scouting non solo sul web ma anche dal vivo, dove niente può essere edulcorato.
What is a message you would like to give to your fans?
Qual è un messaggio che vorresti dare ai tuoi fan?
A message that I would like to convey to those who follow me is to love what you do, to be curious and hungry for knowledge, not to be satisfied, to follow your heart and your intuition because they never lie.
Un messaggio che vorrei trasmettere a chi mi segue è amare quello che si fa, essere curiosi ed affamati di conoscenza, non accontentarsi, seguire il proprio cuore e la propria intuizione perché non mentono mai.
